Cowell denies campus victims insult
(Thursday April 19, 2007 09:43 AM)
Pop mogul Simon Cowell has denied being disrespectful to the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre.
The American Idol judge was caught on camera rolling his eyes and raising his eyebrows as one contestant paid tribute to them.
But Cowell, who has made millions from shows like X Factor, dismissed the claims as rubbish. He said he could not hear the tribute and was criticising the young hopeful's nasal singing as he made the gestures.
Chris Richardson of Chesapeake, Virginia, followed his performance by saying: "My hearts and prayers go out to Virginia Tech. I have a lot of friends over there ... be strong."
The camera caught Cowell's expression and showed him tapping his hand once. Fellow judge Paula Abdul could be seen nodding in approval.
The Fox network said it received a small number of complaints, but internet message boards were deluged with discussion about Cowell.
Cowell dismissed the claims of disrespect as "rubbish", but on the next show he was forced to explain his actions.
He said: "I may not be the nicest person in the world, but I would never, ever, ever disrespect those families or those victims. And I felt it was important to set the record straight."
Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said: "This is a sad time for everyone, so it is especially disheartening that a quick camera cutaway could have been misinterpreted."
He added: "Simon later expressed sincere condolences on behalf of the judges, recognising the challenges we all face in dealing with this horrible event." |

I believe Simon Cowell, I don't think in a million years he would ever say anything or do anything that insensitive about this situation.
Another news story blown out of proportion.
Do you think they're struggling for new angles to the shooting story? _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

Simon may be nasty, but he's not bad. _________________ Geddon

The problem with the media in general, is that they are like an under 5s football team. You look on the pitch and there's 20 players following the ball around the pitch like a swam of bees. All pulling and pushing, trying to get the ball to go this way or that way, no structure, thought or planning, just a big mess. If they were to spread out a bit, put some thought into it, they'd actually see what is really going on. |

He has admited that he was talking to Paula whilst he was making his speech. and didn't hear him say it. I dont believe Simon would be like that. |

Then the one who eventually gets the ball, picks it up and runs with it - because he's got the wrong end of the stick _________________ Eternal nothingness is fine if you happen to be dressed for it. |

I'm not sure that you can get the wrong end of a stick while picking up & running with a ball TBH. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
