Is it me??? How crass are those pre Coronation St adverts for Cadbury's soft centre whatevers? That policewoman is just about the pits. Matched only by the window advert with that demented bird man chucking window frames about and bellowing "yer buy one, yer get one free! Whatever happened to subtle (if subliminal) advertising?

Minx..i agree.
Those Coronation Street ads where the bloke comes in dressed in a suit saying he's been down the allotment.
Just not funny in the slightest.
Have you seen that new chewing gum ad for Trident.
Some Jamaican bloke spoting off in Rastafarian then goes on the River Thames spouting off aswell. It lasts about a minute.
What's that all about?
Finally that Virgin Money ad with the 3 blokes in the lift.
Dreadful absolutely dreadful Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I like the ones with the big creme eggs but the silly policewoman is beginning to get on my nerves a bit now.

Ooh, that's so mean!

I like the Halifax ads only because they use (at face value) "normal" people as the staff. I'm not sure what Natalie thinks of how she looks on television but it's good to see that they haven't used the usual over-made-up, stick-thin actresses who usually populate commercials.

Apart from the ads encouraging people to take out loans they (probably) can't afford, or go into an IVA or bankruptcy to magic away their debts, my pet hate is ads for cosmetics:- Nadine Bag-over-her-head smugly calling herself "celebrity editor", whatever that is, and Jane Fonda - if she really uses what she plugs she ought to stop 'cos she looks awful Rolling Eyes

The ones that really boil my p*ss are those 118.com shorts before and after each commercial break on More4. Once was reasonably amusing, twice was boring, every time after that I vow *never* to use 118.com's services, even if my life depends on it.

Having said that, there was a really amusing trailer for The Daily Show last night, with a chimpanzee giving a cat a wash in a sink.... Jon Stewart's face was a picture! Very Happy (Can't stand the actual programme much but the trailers can be funny.)

Currently the Brantano ad gets my goat, where it's alleged every woman is crazy for shoes!

And then there's the Heat one, with the silly woman saying 'we're going down to London...'. Like no other regional newsagent will stock the grotty rag!

I hate those ads about getting loans of 25k, the woman's on the phone, the kid is looking for his scooter, dad walks by with thumbs up for 25k, then upstairs falls over scooter. Makes me feel sick. The woman seems to have a fake Sunderland accent too!

The important thing, looking at their age is that this loan will cost them hundreds of pounds a month but they don't tell you that.

There's a worse one, where a smarmy bloke wants his loans 'consolidated' and is delighted that the monthly payments are LESS. But of course they don't say he'll be paying them for an extra 10 years.

There's a loan ad in a similar vein (possibly the same company?) with a guy on the phone tossing a football about as his wife videotapes him (WHY???) in conversation with the loan adviser.

"You can really talk to these people like normal human beings" Rolling Eyes

Yeah? Try missing a payment, pal... see how quickly they turn into the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse and all of Satan's minions Laughing

Subtle does not pay the network enough, that is why TV advertising revenues are plummeting and why ITV is having a bad time. Cadburys has pulled its £10m per year sponsorship of Corrie because it now sees more potential in online sponsorship, just like many other businesses. A 30 second network TV spot can cost a fortune (well over £100,000) in the middle of Sunday evening Corrie and almost impossible to measure, whereas online ads can be monitored precisely.

Pity about the phone-in debacle, too. Now where are they going to get programming revenues from? Maybe they will have to start making some decent programming that people will want to watch instead!!!

BTW - I hate almost all TV ads, especially those where the young eager account execs have just discovered classic sixties music and do not realise that some viewers might have known them first time round!

I don't like the ones in which a car 'transforms' and then dances about / skates to some awful industrial / electro 'music'.

I'd never buy one of their cars on the strength of that. Mad

ALL adverts (well almost) annoy me but my current pet hate........

JEYES FLUID promo thingies.... Twisted Evil

I could cheerfully spray him all over, wipe that stupid expression off his face, flush his patronising head down the toilet, lock him in the rabbit hutch and throw him in the 'stinky' bin!!

There was another one recently - can't remember what it was for, it'll come to me later no doubt - but I do remember despairing that someone had actually thought it up, presented it as an idea and everyone said "Wow, that'll be great!" Confused

Not seen that one, but my memory of Jeyes Fluid is that it's the most foul smelling stuff, almost worse than whatever it is supposed to clean.
