Am I right in thinking this major event is tonight.

Sally Bozman dropped a few comments on the 2-5pm show this afternoon with Richard by saying "are you going to the big event tonight Richard". I presume she was refering to this.

Yes he can help Chris carry his awards back to the office. Ouch!!

So that's why Steve Wright is on holidays this week? Laughing

Nice one Ernie.

I had not thought about the reasons why Steve Wright is on holiday this week.

Yes it would be a traversity if a plank such as Steve Wright were to win any kind of radio award.

Is this whole thing of any importance to anybody who does not work in radio broadcasting? Surely it is merely a back-slapping job. Who cares?

Evans, said the judges, displayed "a rare ability to connect with audiences at all levels with warmth and insight" and that his show was characterised by "high production values, quirky ideas and great interviews".

According to Guardian's radio critic Elisabeth Mahoney, developing the slot into "a warm and welcoming show, a world away from its over-laden, frenetic early incarnation".

Can't argue with anything that the judges said.

Great broadcasters are often controversial & attract feelings of extreme like or dislike. It's what marks them out from the mediocre where most people dont care much at all about the presenter either way.

So your comments in a way you probably didnt intend do indeeed re-enforce the validity of the award!

Unusually, I am rendered speechless by Evans winning 2 awards and the patently ludicrous comments that went with them.

What a daft load of numpties the judges must be. Rolling Eyes

If CE is the best entertainer well lets just say I'd rather not be entertained.

The whole thing is a farce.

Couldn't agree more Helen - I am still upset that R2 is a no-go area at a time when we used to be genuinely entertained. Evans must know where the bodies are buried!

Aren't the awards heavily funded by the BBC? And doesn't Dame Lesley have a lot of influence judging-wise?

Oh surprise, surprise.... LD's favourite little puppy Chris Evans wins 2 awards!

And how did Vine win an award for that tabloid cack he churns out every day???

Shocked

High production values Shocked How many posters here complain about the way he constantly shouts into the mike!

"Great broadcasters are often controversial"!! Do we really believe that Evans is "Great!?"

Way off the mark in my opinion.

2 or 3 probably. As many as complain that Wogan mumbles. Basically its about having something to say as opposed to relying on standard DJ cliche fare.

Even as someone who listens to and enjoys Chris's show I can't agree with the comment. Evans may have been shouty and squeeky at the start but the show itself was almost comatose, it was so lifeless. Especially when his dull Crossword-loving mate came on.

Just goes to show what a load of old bow locks the Sony awards are: I could come up with 100 more deserving recipients than Evans. No, make that 1000: virtually anyone on radio(obviously not including the dire Ross, & Brand)

Well, he's yet to connect with me on any level, save that of making me reach for the 'off' button. Does that count?

Congratulations are in order for Chris, Mark and Gambo, however as it does reflect well on R2 as a whole.

I think some of these comments give the message board a bad name. I dont intend to go on about this as it only feeds things

BUT

Basically these comments all boil down to "I dont like it, therefore it must be a fix." "I'm the only one who has good taste, everybody who likes his show is an idiot".

Has it ever occurred to you that some of have to endure stuff that we consider rubbish, which you guys enjoy?

If I was to reply to every Richard Allinson post in similar manner, would you get pissed off after a while. [ and yes those posts are made by the same half dozen people]

I agree, maybe a little more tolerance for other peoples tastes might be in order. I totally understand that Chris is not to everyone's taste but there are plenty of people out there who like him.
As I've said earlier, I enjoy his show, I don't think I have to justify why, I just like it, I'm not an idiot and I think Chris is a good guy.

I don't really like Jeremy Vine but others do, it would be a dull old world if we all liked the same things wouldn't it?

For me it's a team thing at Radio 2. They all do their bit for their listeners. That is what is important.

Awards (of all kinds) have always been an inside job. A bit like a school nativity play: the best parts go to the kids who can get up there and do it. That doesn't mean that being the third lobster of the backing singers is any less important to the whole story.

Which is why I said that congratulations were in order for him as it reflected well on R2 as a whole. Credit where credit's due. I may not like the guy much, but I respect what he's achieved for the station.

I might not like CE's show personally, but I do recognise that some do, which is valid enough for me - let's face it, if no-one liked him, he wouldn't have a job at the station. I'm certainly not arrogant enough to think that I am the dictator of taste here - my likes and dislikes are well known on the forum: if you agree with me, fine, if you don't, fair enough. I'm not going to cry about it if you don't, but a constructive argument about the merits of x over y and z is part of what this forum is about.

However, using TTS's comments, I don't enjoy his show, I don't think I have to justify why, I just don't like it and I'm not an idiot. Mind you, I couldn't tell you whether he's a good guy or not - I don't know him that well.

Counter-rant over.... Laughing Laughing Laughing

good lord Gfloyd!
Partiality is a concept you don't seem to be able to grasp!!
Is it really necessary to spread the Evans love all the time?... sure you're not just being a spammer and unable to even bear a post which says anything that goes against your own high opinion of him?
In the words of Green Wing, what is he, the Ginger Jesus or something?
I'm sorry, it's just really getting on my pip!

well, you see...I do not feel the need to refer to Mr Maconie in almost every post!

my curt manner? Laughing what are you on aboot, ye wee nutter

I have no wish to throw insults, some of us have matured from such playground antics! Laughing maybe your own curt reply says more about your inability to accept that other people have their own opinions - you are therefore fairly entitled to love Mr Evans as much as you like, I would just appreciate it (and I'm sure others on the board would too) if you had a little more of a grown up attitude about it and didn't have to pump the Evans propaganda all the time.
