Chilling to think what they could have done. I doubt this will be the last?

Its amazing the amount of surveillance that was required to secure a successful prosecution. It is wonder that they do not have sufficent resources to investigate all the hangers on at the periphery of these individuals when they spend the folowing on the case:

24,000 hours of video
3,000 hours of audio
33,000 man hours of surveillance
80 computers examined after arrest

Add to that the cost of keeping these guys in Belmash for 40 years

What are you suggesting, Ernie?

well if you are serious about preventing these attacks the bar of evidence needs to be lowered.

Guilty until proven innocent, perhaps? Yep. That sounds like justice!

One has to bear in mind that no-one dare say that there are approximately 3,000 young Asian males under regular surveillance. Mustn't frighten the public must we........??
It used to be the case that people who had this amount of evidence against them would never see the inside of a court room.
There were ways of dealing with them. Rolling Eyes

First, let's be thankful to all involved that the 2003/4 plot was smashed. The consequences if it had succeeded don't bear thinking about.

But those who are responsible at the top level for security earn large sums of money for their heavy responsibility and can hardly be surprised if we ask them some difficult questions.

Ian.

But do they Ian? I bet they could get much better money in the private sector without the same level of stress re life/death decisions.

Well is it better that one guilty person goes free and kills several hundred (maybe thousand) people as opposed to depriving some people of their liberty based upon reasonable suspicion that they are likely to be a threat?

You say yes, I say I'm not so sure.

So innocent that 2 of them went on to kill 52. Confused As this operation has shown these were not random "ethnics" rounded up for the hell of it. These were determined individuals who had traceable links to terrorist organisations. Mr Patel down the corner shop is not gonna get detained because he is muslim Rolling Eyes , but as always the pc brigade are up in arms about human rights violations and victimisation. maybe when its one of their family that gets blown to smithereens on their way to work then maybe-just maybe-one persons liberty may suddenly be less important than the lives of 52. Mad

pick a guy at random off the streets and detain him indefinately then YES kick up a fuss about his rights. Detain a guy because he's identified as meeting with known terrorists suspects and has been tailed for months acting suspiciously then TOUGH S*** about his rights. I have a right to go out tomorrow and not get blown up.

thank god one woman had the sense to be un-pc and report the suspect storage of fertiliser at her depot.
