Actor Gordon Scott, who was best known for playing Tarzan in the 1950s, has died at the age of 80.

The star passed away following complications from heart surgery, according to a spokesman for St Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Scott, who was a lifeguard when he was spotted by a Hollywood producer, went on to make 24 films.

Actress Betty Thomas, who visited him before his death, said: "He opened one eye for a moment and gave me a wink."

Scott spent the last few years of his life living in a house belonging to Thomas and her husband, Roger.

"My husband has been a fan of his since he was a child. When we were in Hollywood about eight years ago, we looked him up. We invited him for a visit. He came and never left," she said.

Speaking to The Baltimore Sun, Danton Burroughs, grandson of Tarzan creator Edgar Rice, said: "He was an absolutely wonderful Tarzan, who played the character as an intelligent and nice man who carried himself well, much as my grandfather had originally written it."

During the 1954 production of his first film, Tarzan's Hidden Jungle, Scott fell in love with co-star Vera Miles.

The couple married that year but divorced four years later. After the Tarzan movies, he appeared in Westerns and gladiator films.

More sarky comments? Rolling Eyes it reminds me of someone.

It may have escaped your notice but this is a news a current affairs section. If these stories do not interest you then don't read them, what are you hoping to gain with your put-downs? Confused

Not a put down, just a reaction that is all.

You have left sarky comments in at least 3 recent threads in this section started by mark, what is your point?

What is the point of what? What is the point of making posts pointing to old BBC news stories?

Because it's a news and current affairs section FFS Rolling Eyes does it not occur to you that not all of us are glued to the BBC news website so might not have heard these stories.

You do not have to be glued to anything - this stuff has been on radio, tv and the desktop alerts. In other words old news. So - what is the point of reposting it all? That is my point.

I would have thought that the purpose of this section is not to simply repost news stories, but whatever.....

Maybe but why simply replicate the words from somewhere else? I do not see the point...

Chersk, my good friend I think you may be right (thanks for making me smile on a day I have a real bad headache...and no drink involved either!!) Crying or Very sad

Fred,if you are Fred and not a certain someone else, Your postings elswhere are fine but please don't join the 'have a go at Mark' bandwagon.

For the one millionth time......this is a news section, what in the name of all that's holy do you expect to find talked about here?

Marks posts may be links and cut 'n' pastes but it get's the ball rolling. If you object to that then simply don't look at this section and let us enjoy your posts in the other sections.

Andy, mate - all part of the service. Very Happy

Fred - I've all but given up with Snooze 24 and the other TV news shows. I don't bother with daily newspapers any more, and if I miss the news bulletins on the radio, this is often the first place I actually get to hear about something that's happened - I'll then turn the telly on or search the web if it piques my interest further.

As Andy has suggested, if you're unhappy with Mark's postings (and please bear in mind he's been doing this since R2OK opened for business), then simply ignore them and contribute to one of the other threads. Plenty of us have started similar news threads - a link and a related (or pithy!) comment.

We've already had two members having a go at Mark because of this, why be the third? No-one wins when we're sniping at each other.

Strange that Ella / Gus was suspended indefinately on 20 April 2007 and Fred signed on on 21st April 2007.

May be a coincidence, i may be completely wrong but the style of posts and info on hid memberlist are remarkably simmilar.

Any comment, Fred?
