Vic Reeves is working on a new panel show and sketch show for Radio 2.

Due to broadcast in June, Does the Team Think? will see celebrities asked questions posed by the studio audience, like "Are tracksuit bottoms socially acceptable?" and "Does the team think they have a sense of humour?"

The 8-part 30-minute show will be produced by Open Mike Productions and will feature Paul Whitehouse, Tom Baker, Alan Carr and Sean Lock as guests.

Radio 2 controller Lesley Douglas has also commissioned a new six-part sketch show from Reeves and Open Mike.

Due to be broadcast later this year, the show will feature new characters, and be in the style of Reeves' earlier TV shows, like Big Night Out and The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer.

I quite like Vic Reeves, but I'm not sure about this panel game, it might be alright.

"Does the team think there'll ever be anything worth listening to in the so-called 'Comedy Hour' on Saturdays?"

"The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer" had it's moments I thought, as did Shooting Stars, but I did like most of the original "Big Night Out" series...
I liked Vic's suited image and catch lines like "wouldn't let it lie" and "that was my idea" but I don't think they have ever been as strong since.

He's a panel show whore nowadays, but I'm glad he's getting to do a comedy show - the TV bosses don't want him anymore. They reckon they've seen all he can do and would rather have bright young things like Lucas & Walliams and Ricky Gervais.

Which is fair enough - his last show Monkey Trousers was awful and Mortimer's tittybangbang is one of the worst comedy shows ever broadcast by the BBC.

I'd hardly call it a 'new' show - 'Does The Team Think' was originally hosted by Jimmy Edwards in the 1960s! I think they repeated some a few years back, and they were quite entertaining.

There is nothing new in the world.

This isn't the same show - it's just uses the same title and a bit of the premise.

Does The Team Think? was one of those 50s/60s shows that were probably funnier in the memory than they were in actual fact. As an antidote to Any Questions it featured McDonald Hobley as straight man/chairman who put questions, some of which were semi-serious, to the panel of four comedians - I think Ted Ray, Jimmy Edwards and Tommy Trinder were pretty much regulars, the fourth spot was a bit more fluid, with Cyril Fletcher, Cardew Robinson and Arthur Askey often in there.

All these panel games, be they radio or TV, depend on the quick wit (and alleged pre-show preparation) of the participants. The same sort of guests who do well on HIGNFY and QI would undoubtedly fit the bill - I'm not sure that Paul Whitehouse would do anything more than trot out the same old tired characterisations we've seen on The Fast Show and the latest aberration with Harry Enfield. Tom Baker works marvellously with any script but off the cuff...?

As for Vic Reeves, he appears to be too Spike Milligan these days. Wink
