I was intrigued to learn that on Fife's Kingdom FM that on Monday next at 6am Micky Gavin is going to attempt to present the longest continuous radio show in the world! He is going for the Guinness world record. The current record holder is around 5 and and a half days. Can he stay awake?

If you are interested you can find out how he's doing at www.kingdomfm.co.uk

All the money raised is going to Kingdom Kids Charity.

Am I right in thinking Simon Mayo attempted something similar some years ago when he broke the record at 25 hours.

If Radio 2 were going to nominate someone to attempt to break the world record who would you nominate-I'd nominate Steve Wright.

SW probably has the stamina, going by the relentless tripe he can churn out in an afternoon. I wouldn't listen of course Smile

It was Mayo who set the record - because there had been many dangerous, unsupervised attempts in the past (and stories that had become folklore but not necessarily true) Guinness came up with new rules and regs for the stunt and Mayo was the one who went first.

I don't think his record lasted long, but a lot of ILR stations do it as publicity stunts and (knowingly) don't actually follow the rules. One in Preston did it, but seemed to count on the fact most listeners wouldn't be listening at night. So loads of people thought they'd done a 7 day broadcast, but they hadn't at all.

Most of it would still be pre-recorded tripe! Laughing Laughing Laughing

I suspect RB would be able to, although that might just be down to perception - five minutes of his show seems like five hours! Laughing

It is a pretty pointless record TBH. Ok they may be raising money for charity but does that excuse putting out endless hours of twaddle on the airwaves.
People seem to think they can inflict any sort of rubbish on the public if it is for charity: witness Children In Need's TV show every year. Rolling Eyes

According to the webcam, Mark Radcliffe has been broadcasting since Thursday as the above has been the picture since then. Presumably all programmes since have been recorded! I wonder what this marathon broadcast has been in aid of. Mind you, it's rare to see Mark at work. It's nearly always trained on Stuart & or the guest of the day. I wonder what the joke was.

Yep, this is one of the local stations I listen to from time to time. They have been advertising for doctors and nurses to help provide 24 hour support!

Good luck to him Rolling Eyes
