Very sorry that Aled Jones seems to have such a sickness jinx and hope he'll be back next week. But having Roger Royle on the show today brought back happy memories of his time as its host back in the 80s. He's lost none of his skill at presenting this type of show and the Beeb ought to be using him more.

Ian.

Oh I didn't know Roger was doing the show today, I'll try and catch it on listen again. I love him, his laugh is infectious. Laughing

Thanks for comment. Did you know that Roger Royle will be on Jeremy Vine's show this Fri between 1 and 2 in a link-up between troops in Iraq and their families. The corresponding event last year was very moving. I'll definitely be listening!

Aled's posted on his website that he has a deep vein thrombosis as a result of his achilles injury and being in plaster, hence the no-show on Sunday. That can't be nice. Sad

No, DVT is quite dangerous, so I wish him well.

I posted about this on the Sarah Kennedy thread last week. I represent Aled on classicalx (different username!) and so do get bits of info.

Aled has had to pull out of the panto he was doing, also other commitments and is really having a tough time at the minute. I heard from his manager this evening that "I think he will be pretty much limited to just doing GMS until the New Year ". So I hope Aled manages GMS this coming Sunday, but also hope everyone will be understanding if he does not, as this could really be important for him - and dangerous if not properly dealt with. It could affect so much of his work - eg Friday Night is Music Night would be difficult to do live (he normally hops on and off the stage to check the timing as the programme goes on etc).

And he is such a workaholic, and enforced rest is not Aled!

Yes he has had rotten luck recently. I do hope the luck turns now

I think we'd all rather have him remain under the care of his doctors until the danger of the DVT has passed. Far better to do that than rush back and potentially cause himself problems.

I couldn't agree more firefly, but the person to persuade is Aled! Sitting still with one leg up just is not his cup of tea! (or indeed glass of wine!).

Mind you, if he is having to have operations on the leg, which I believe he is, he really won't have much choice.
