DNA evidence appears to prove the driver of Princess Diana's car was drunk on the night of her fatal 1997 accident, a BBC documentary reveals.

The test indicates original post-mortem blood samples, which showed Henri Paul was three times over the French drink-drive limit, were accurate.

The programme, How Diana Died: The Conspiracy Files, reports that the French authorities used the DNA tests.

Conspiracy theorists have claimed that Mr Paul's blood samples were swapped.

Some suggest this was done to portray him as drunk in an elaborate cover-up of a secret service plot to murder Princess Diana.

But using DNA testing would show that the driver's blood samples could not have been switched.

The new evidence has come to light on the eve of the publication of Lord Stevens' report into Princess Diana's death.

The DNA tests were carried out in France within the last year, according to a source close to the French authorities.

One of them being Mohammed Al-Fayed, according to the R2 news bulletin this morning at 0700.

Not if the 'Phoney Pharoah' has anything to do with it, probably.

I would like to think it will be an end to the matter but if the Egyptian grocer has anything to do with it I doubt it will be.

Her driver was drunk. He crashed the car. Unfortunately, three people died. End of conspiracy theory.

If there's no conspiracy, how will the Daily Express sell newspapers? Very Happy

Yep, exactly. Anything else is just a way of selling newspapers or the Phoney Pharoah trying to cause bother because HMG won't give him a UK passport.

While I had sympathy for Wills and Harry losing their mother at the time, I couldn't stand the way the press and seemingly normal people went completely overboard after her death (the country effectively shut down for several days).

I remember Private Eye printing a page showing the double standards of various media outlets/TV pundits at the time - in some instances the same newspaper featuring verbal attacks on Diana the day before she died, then blanket 'we love you, The People's Princess' coverage the next - hypocrites, the lot of them. And WH Smith then had the nerve to ban the Eye from its shelves due to complaints from the public about its stance - this being the pointing out of double standards! (Which is why WHS is referred to as 'WH Smug' in the Eye nowadays.)

I give the alien conspiracy theories about Area 51 more credence than I do any dodgy goings-on re Diana's death.

All power to Private Eye for labelling WH Smith 'WH Smug'! They were horrible towards Viz too, as told in Chris Donald's history of his time on the mag.

I once applied for a job at WHS and, after I was told to request feedback from them, got the comment from a receptionist that 'we don't reply to unsuccessful people'! Evil or Very Mad

It was a week before Children In Need too - I was tempted to ring the Music Marathon line and request Genesis's 'No Reply At All', dedicated to them. By the way, where's Genesis in the lineup of the Diana memorial concert?

Correct, but this has taken up peoples time to investigate, and proberly cost the tax payer a lot of money to conclude this.

Why if he knew he was drunk and had Diana in the car was driving? Were the demons after him?

Unsurprisingly, Al-Fayed has dismissed the latest findings, citing a cover-up. Of course, it could be a failure on his part to admit that his son hired a drunk as a driver.

This so called Fiat Uno dosn't exisist? Now why weren't they all wearing seatbelts? Something else went on in that car which we will never know about. One thing is it's a shame there weren't many CCTV like there is these days.

Maybe Lord Stevens report has some lose ends which are not correct, and keeping Al Fayed happy?

Nah, the Phoney Fuggah is just rattling cages because HMG won't give him a UK passport. As Natasha said, the driver was drunk and crashed the car. No hidden agenda, just an unfortunate event.

And as a woman said today.."If she had stayed at home looking after her sons, and not gone carousing in Paris with her botfriend, she would still be alive"!

Amen to that!

I don't know if she was murdered or if it was an accident
A Met Police investigation found that the Met Police did not kill a Brazillian Engineer in London last year
Can we trust the results?
In any case, predictablky the Daily Express won't accept the findings
If the EXpress stopped its Diana stories, they'd have to cut the size of the paper by a third.

I'm confused. Was this something to do with Prince Philip and a grassy knoll?

Did they release this story to distract us from Blair and cash for honours or the other way round.

I just find it a mite sad the the accidental death of a woman nine years ago seemed more important to the media than the murders of five women now.

They'd just fill it with pages about ever-increasing house prices - or is that the Mail? Smile

I think that actually they found that the Police did not murder him. That he was killed was never in doubt.
