Much of this summer's UK strawberry crop may be left to rot in the field due to a shortage of migrant pickers, the main farmers' union has warned.
The National Farmers' Union (NFU) blamed the staffing shortfall on rising standards of living in Poland and other eastern Europe nations.

No sign of English people wanting to do this work, despite all their moaning about immigrants! _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

So which country is it next we get them from, where they will work for low wages ?
Can't someone invent an attachment to pick them that attachs to a 4x4 ? |

How far can you remember Toggy?
In the early 1900's - 1920's Britain had many immigrants from eastern Europe and the Mediterranean countries, and as far I know nobody was really bothered then. Indeed the musicians among them helped in a major way to create the popular music scene here, many being members of the top dance bands in London and elsewhere. |
