Radio DJ Hannah Clarkson has given up her job - so that she can watch
Big Brother all day long.

The DJ on Portsmouth-based station The Quay left after her boss wouldn't give her the time off. "You're supposed to enjoy the summer months and I just got fed up with the thought of working while Big Brother is on telly 24/7," she said. "I can't bear to be without it."

Her boss Sam Matterface was not impressed. "I don't understand why anyone would give up their career to sit in front of the TV for three months - especially to watch a load of mindless idiots who everyone will forget about after the summer."

Yes, it was about time the "cheap plugs for BB masquerading as news stories" started - apparently the Metro free paper ran something today announcing they'd ran out of toilet paper already. Rolling Eyes

just cant believe anyone would give up a job, never mind a career, for such a trivial reason. I will be more convinced if she's still "unemployed" after 3 months. Confused

It's gotta be a stunt. Knowing how hard it is to get a job as a DJ, it's an insane move if it isn't.... Besides, who would employ her afterwards if she's liable to quit for something so silly?

It's all a set-up Mad

Is it hard for local commercial radio? There seems to be a constant turnover of people, and I would guess they don't earn that much - the threat of being easily and quickly replaced must hang over them.

That said, if she's really given up her job to watch BB she's mad!

Yes, Ian, it's a really cut-throat game. no-one does anyone any favours in case they make the other person look better than them, and management are brutal. And the money is rubbish. One slot a day, five days a week, will only earn you between around £200 to £270 a week, depending which slot and where you are.

You have to get into the BBC local to make a half-decent wage.

Big Brother occupies TV through summer, and local DJs (I'm thinking of Radio Aire, The Pulse and Real Radio in my area) talk of little else!

Ridiculous.

Well they are talking to their demo. These stations appeal to the 15-35 age bracket, the same audience that watch Big Brother. What amazes me is Radio 2's obsession with Big Brother hosts, since most of the audience dislike BB with a passion.
