Britain's knighthood to the author Salman Rushdie contributes to insulting Islam and may lead to terrorism, a Pakistani minister has said.

Such actions are the root cause of terrorism, Religious Affairs Minister Ejaz-ul-Haq told parliament.

He has cost the Tax Payer a lot of money to protect him. I wonder how he will get to buck house without being noticed?

IIRC he paid for or at least towards his protection when in hiding.

Exactly Geddon, stuff them I say, I'm not a fan of Rushdie's work particularly but I think it's up to us who we give honours to.
He's written loads of other things besides the Satanic verses.

Am I alone in thinking that, after the shame of the "cash for peerages" scandal, that awarding honours to foreign born poets, journalists and spies serves only to add weight to the argument to disband the honours system which the Labour party has found abhorrent for many years.
They don't do anything except for their own advantage.
Personally, I cannot stand Salman Rushdie, but I do accept that "Midnight's Children" is a brilliant insight into a phase of 20th Century history and a true test of our English Literature students' ability to dissect the vagaries of our language.
