|
|
So Bernard Manning, 76, has kicked the proverbial bucket and gone to the great Embassy Club in the skies, it has just been announced.
I once worked on a BBC job where the PA was (shall we say) a little rotund and very self-conscious. All Manning did all day was ask her when "it was due".
He was extremely rude (all for the sake of a cheap laugh - which he didn't get, incidentally) and won't be missed by her, I don't suppose. |

I feel very sorry for his family but he is no loss to (alleged) comedy. |

Well I for one think it's sad.
Controversial or not, I thought some of his jokes were genuinely funny. I watched a fly on the wall documentary on Bernard a few years back and I thought he came across ok and not particularly racist.
Just my opinion of course... |

He was a bit of a slob though wasnt he? IIRC he spent all day in his underpants & didnt bother to dress unless he was going out. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Les Dawson, by contrast, was a lovely bloke. I always remember getting a peek into his dressing room once in Blackpool - it was full of chorus-line dancers! He had them all in fits of giggles but I really cannot figure out what he was doing! |

That was the way he was though, he wasn't doing any harm by living like that, except perhaps to himself.
I didn't like his comedy but he was still a person who had family, a bit of respect might be nice. |

I was only making an observation. His mother only died about a decade ago. He used to say "She was getting so old, I'd have to carry her downstairs to make my breakfast!" _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Imagine the scene: Bernard Manning gets to the Pearly Gates and asks to see God. The gates open and a voice says 'I am the Greatest!' Bernard says 'Bugger me, it's Mohammed Ali!' |

I didn't think Bernard Manning that funny, however for racial, sexist and all the other "ists" Mike Reid (from EE), could beat him hands down in his stand up routines in the 1970's.
Hats off to Bernard Manning for not changing with the times! |

Channel 4 to resurrect Manning
Bernard Manning will return from the grave to deliver his own obituary in a Channel 4 documentary next month.
The controversial comic, who has died aged 76, recorded footage over the past year for the one-hour documentary, to be called Bernard Manning RIP.
Made by independent producer AVP Films, the programme will look back on Manning's life and career and has been made with the full co-operation of his family.
The comic took part in a "living wake" for the show five weeks ago, telling 600 friends and fans: "I'm going to be with you for a long time yet."
He also wrote his own obituary for the Daily Mail, which was printed in the paper today.

And while we're speaking of an overweight, arrogant slob telling unacceptable, unprincipled, unfunny jokes - when is Jo Brand due on again ?? _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |

I'm surprised that the wail would do such a thing - Even the promise of a 10 track Peter Gabriel CD couldn't entice me to buy the sunday version _________________ Geddon
