Shocked

They are determined to make this potentially good show, due to format and musical content etc, unlistenable Crying or Very sad

Let's have MR or SM Smile

You know how you occasionally misread titles of threads?

I initially read this one as "Pete Mitchell stands in for doormat".... Laughing

(Nod, I agree with you, mate....)

In your opinion maybe.

In mine no-Dermot is an excellent presenter and I really think he is good in this Saturday afternoon slot.

Hurry back Dermot.

Have you heard it today? Just desperate amateurism, with the added bonus of a 'bugger' and 'bloody' in the same link!

Stick to doing time-checks Pete! It's what you do best!

It's about his music which he likes and brings to the network. I think he 's good broadcaster.

Maybe the music is good, Dermot has some good live bands, but we have to listen between the tracks and that's just not worth the effort.

Heard a bit of last week's and the last hour of today's not impressed with his presentation at all.

Must check out the female singer though.

Holy smoke!!! How bad can a dj be!!! "do you want me to fill..." what an absolute shambles! I thought Pete was a seasoned DJ, he came across today as someone who had done no prep whatsoever!

Yes, ok there was a cock up with the phones contestant "what do you think, shall we play the quiz tracks?...(long pause)...no. ok...er, well...oh, we are going to hear them....".

One word I'm afraid - rubbish. The DJ's we know and love know how to cover cock ups but I swear, this was like listening to someone new to radio.

Sorry, Pete - very embarrasing as a radio 2 fan to have you on at all.

There was also the problem with the satellite phone (not his fault I know) but (I'll admit to not knowing who it was, as I was cooking and was in and out of the kitchen) he sounded like speaking to Pete Mitchell was the last thing on earth he was expecting to happen.......

It probably doesnt help that he probably hasn't slept for at least 20 hours. I understand he now records his Sat night/ Sunday show but the Friday night one is still live.

There seemed to be a cockup with everything, I listened to the start and he couldn't even contact the guy to interview or whatever, even blamed DO'L for sabotaging it Laughing

and then he interviewed a girl who had lived in New York and asked what she thought of New York, she was only 4 at the time !!

Nod-I agree-truly terrible.

He interviewed yesterday some poor girl where everything he said to her turned out wrong-he clearly had not done his homework on her background, recent developments, even her brothers.

Get him off and get someone decent in.

Anyone know who the girl was?

I couldn't bear to have to listen through the show again to find out, I didn't hear the name.

Sorry, Helen - I felt the same. I could actually feel myself going red with embarassment listening to it.

The girl had been dragged away from her holidays and was plainly not in the mood but pete went right on in asking her how the holiday was "It's a beautiful place" to which Peter replied, can you describe the shoreline at all or was it just 'beautiful'!!!!! Classic, Peter - talk down to the guests why dont ya.

Carcrash radio, sheesh!

I didnt think anybody could be worse at interviewing that Steve Wright or some of his substitutes but I stand corrected.

Remarkable the guy is trying to give something different to Radio 2 and no one seems to like his presenting skills. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. They all have different styles.

Well you must be easily pleased Mark, it was truly appalling. It certainly wasn't Radio 2 standard.

By the way I think the girl was Candi Payne according to the webpage.

I have to agree H - we turned it off. I've been unimpressed the last couple of times he been on but yesterday's show was hopeless.

Listened to RA on BFBS - a broadcaster who knws how to get out of it when things go wrong Smile

He's not above partonising his guests either.

But Mitchell takes the biscuit. Maybe they can give him a show on the comedy hour. I'm Pete Mitchell A-HA!

I know the slot isn't really a Baker type format, but it still annoys me that Douglas is willing to give airtime to such rank amateurism, yet ignores someone who gets to number three in the podcast top 100, via a local radio show and well ahead of people like Wright, Wogan and Scott Mills, with utter professionalism, creativity and humour.

Well, well - the R2 Listen Again page doesn't list Pete Mitchell standing in for Dermot, and there's a little note in red at the top saying that not all of the programmes are available. Pity, I was after a bit of entertainment just now.... Smile

If I was a conspiracy theorist.... Laughing

I heard Johnny Vaughan saying on Capital Radio that he ( Mean himself ) might be a crap interviewer but the people who get interviewed enjoy themselves.

Mitchell is a poor presenter too! .... Unfortunately though the people who listen don't enjoy themselves!

I love it. Lesley went shopping at Virgin Radio and came back with the straight man. It's like a comedy channel signing Syd Little or Mike Winters!

Thought this week's show was not a lot better than previous efforts.

Pete Mitchell is certainly a very average presenter imho.

When's Dermot returning.

When it is announced that really Kate Thorton wasn't so bad after all & yes Simon would like her back instead of Kermit.

Part 1 happened this week with Louis returning to the fold Wink
