Just watched my recording of the Who at Glastonbury.
Never been a super fan of the Who apart from the old days when I thought songs such as Substitute, My Generation, Pictures of Lilly, Legal Matter were just fantastic.
Later stuff from say, Tommy onwards was just so so for me.
Although I think Daltry's voice has suffered a bit, it was still enjoyable to watch and I was reasonably impressed by Townshend's guitar work too. Again, he never really registered as a guitar great for me.
But, I was certainly impressed by the drummer, great stuff and to my amazement at the end of the performance, he turns out to be Ringo's son, Zak Starkey!
Again, Ringo was Ringo but super drummer? I didn't think so, but his son certainly qualifies! |

I haven't seen The Who since the mid-70s when it was composed of the original foursome. The last time I saw them was at Swansea Football Stadium and what a great gig that was.
I must say that I thought their performance at Glastonbury was pretty good, considering the fact that Townsend and Daltrey are now of pensionable age pretty much! They sure showed a few young whipper-snapper bands how to do it....
I thought Paolo Palomino's bass work was just wonderful, as was Zak Starkey's drumming. The only thing he lacked was the funny faces that Moonie used to pull when at the limit of his power, but in every other respect he did a great job. Of course, he didn't complete trash his kit at the end of the gig - but then Townsend didn't trash his speaker cabs with his guitar either!
Was his dad a super drummer? In my book - yes. The drumming on the "second side" of Abbey Road is just about as good as it can get. Breath-takingly good - as many accomplished drummers have agreed. |

Got to feel a bit sorry for old Ringo...first they said he wasn't the best drummer in the Beatles and now he's not the best drummer in the family
Quite enjoyed The Who on Sunday tho. _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

Never mind. He can at least lay claim to having been the drummer in the best pop group in history - and that would be good enough for me! |

The Who rock.
What a fantastic group this is.
Bought their Greatest Hits compilation recently-well worth the money-they have made some great tracks over the years.
Lets's hear more of this Group on the radio-sadly this won't be BBC Radio 2 I fear. |

I agree Mark,
I don't think we'll hear much of the Who on 2 anymore which is a disgrace in my opinion.
Incidentally I went with a friend to see Who's Next, a Who tribute band and they were superb.
Their drummer was brilliant, I think he was the best drummer I've seen, including big name bands. |

I dug out my vinyl copy of "The Who - Live At Leeds" the other day and was reminded just how fantastic the album is - one of the best live rock albums ever, especially when played loud. A friend of mine told me recently that he was in the audience on the night of the recording. |
