So how is the ageist? The guy leaves of his own free will. What are they supposed to do: force him to stay on?
I always thought Nick Ross would be good on Radio 2 doing Jeremy Vine's show. After all he used to do Tuesday Call on Radio 4. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I just asked on the other thread about Moira Stuart if there was any indication that Nick's departure had anything to do with his age.
It seems he has chosen to go, how is this ageist? |

It has been reported elsewhere that his contract was not going to be renewed, and the press have drawn the natural conclusion http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/06/20/nbbc120.xml
However, I would tend to agree with his comment on the original BBC press release, that, after 23 years, the change (for him) wouldn't be a bad thing, and it's always best to go out at the top, before (as has also been intimated elsewhere) they start mucking about with the format of the programme, to make it "younger" or "more dramatic". _________________ Ron |

Nick Ross was lumped in with Michael Aspel as a "veteran" tv presenter fired because of his age. That's such a journalistic cliche. There is nearly a 20 year age difference between the two! _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I mean Parky left the BBC for ITV I wonder if that had something too do with age?
I suppose we will have to put up with Norton, Ross and Kay until they grow old. |

I thought that might happen Michael is 74 years old, does it not occur to them that he might want to put his feet up and take it easy or indeed retire completely. |

I believe they made it clear to him he wasn't wanted, so he chose to announce it himself before they ditched him.
In my eyes it's typical of the youth obsessed BBC of today.
I couldn't care less if a presenter is 20 or 80, if you're good you're good.(as was Jimmy Young) |

No. Having acquired the rights to Saturday night football again, the beeb wanted to push Parkinson back to late night Saturday and he said that he didn't want that. They wouldn't budge so he said "lump it". ITV jumped in with a much better offer to entice Parky over to their channel as a magnet for non-football viewers and he accepted. He's now paid much more than ever the beeb paid him and he has Assoc Prod status as well. No ageist agenda there! It's all about audience share, ratings and revenues.
Parkinson continues to get very good ratings for Saturday primetime, so much so that it's not difficult getting programme sponsorship. That's essential in these times of plummeting spot-ad revenues on all ITV channels. |

Fiona Bruce is going to present Antiques roadshow so she is hardly being edged out. |

I did mean only of Crimewatch. They obviously want to "sex" the show up.
The newspaper article did try to give the impression that age had something to do with it, but she was having none of it, although I do sense that she was not quite ready to volunteer to leave it.
However, Jonathon Ross (who's four years older) had better watch his back
(Enjoyed Fiona's escapade with the tigers aboard (and almost falling off) an elephant, on BBC1 last night) _________________ Ron |
