....go up in one of these if you had the chance? No basket, just a lightweight framework with a gas bottle and burner attached to the back of the pilot's seat!

I took these shots at what was called the "Newcastle Balloon Spectacular" yesterday morning (between 0645 and 0720) - a new event to end the annual Hoppings Fair on Newcastle's Town Moor. I'm not entirely sure that three hot air balloons constitute a 'spectacular' but it was an enjoyable hour or so - especially when the noise of the burners from the first one to lift made the cows stampede - they'd wandered across, curious to see what was going on. Good job I wasn't standing in their way! Very Happy

Some more shots from the morning lift:

And going by the success of the last caption competition, here's another one - my entry being "I shouldn't have eaten all that curry last night!" Laughing

Not sure about the 'air chair' balloons (e.g.G-CCJY) But having been up in a normal balloon and basket, I can thoroughly recommend that.

Yep, like the idea of a basket ride (would that make me a 'basket case'?!), but I've also seen some land before - the basket tipping over and being dragged along the ground.... Shocked Smile
