Just seen the offending ad on Channel 4 news. It is really a slice of history, can't imagine it would persuade anyone to over indulge in eggs, just a bit of nostalgia.

Good - but only if it's the "pasteurised, homogenised, standardised" skimmed variety - you might as well drink water Evil or Very Mad

Well, if there's a fire, you'll all be pleased to know the fire engines in Yorkshire won't be causing accidents anymore - the drivers have been told to switch off their 'blues and twos' on non-priority calls.

Isn't this a bit like asking John Prescott to be a slimming & fitness envoy.

Aye, Toggy... The first word out of my mouth when I heard that was a very, very naughty expletive- followed by a bellowed "Has the world truly gone insane?"

It appears the lunatics really have taken over the asylum Shocked

Health and Safety.... Evil or Very Mad I hate it.
In most cases this is like the government saying "You have no brain so this is what you do"

I had a situation recently whereby one of our cleaners got a little "anti" regarding cleaning the staircases.
"We have to have vacuum cleaners stored on each floor level because we're only allowed to hoover half the stairs at a time....." Confused

"Explain?" I said.

"We've been told we must hoover the top half of the stairs with the first floor vacuum cleaner then put it away and get out the ground floor vacuum cleaner for the lower half. We're not allowed to carry a vacuum cleaner up or down the stairs"

I absolutely refuse to attend any Health & Safety training course held here as a matter of principal.

We were once informed on a so-called "equality and diversity" course that if any of us decided to go out on a night in the town after work and got into a fight, etc., which led to police involvement, we would be disciplined at work as well because the night out was organised on company premises, therefore our behaviour brought the organisation into disrepute.

I remember the word "bo**ocks" being used several times as a retort, but the po-faced management hack giving the course was adamant.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the early fifties my mother had a few problems with low blood pressure etc and her GP told her to have a bottle of Guinness three times a week.

She kept that up for about 20 years till she tired of it and switched to a glass of sherry most nights, which she maintained till her death at 82 in 2003. I don't know if it improved her condition per se but it certainly made her feel better about it!

And another thing...

I grew up in a house full of tobacco smoke. Several of my work colleagues smoked until it became frowned on and many of my mates smoked, too, so I must have inhaled more second-hand smoke in the workplace and pubs than many of you have had hot dinners.

But I've never taken up smoking at all and at 58 feel as fit as I did when I was 18.

Am I the only lifelong non-smoker to feel that this smoke-free business from 1 July is a huge over-reaction?

CHILDREN have been banned from buying rum and raisin ice cream from the 385 shops of confectionery giant Thorntons.
The summer treat is now available to over-18s only, even though youngsters would have to scoff 28 large cones to get the same alcoholic effect as drinking one can of lager. One store demands ID.
Parents branded the ruling “ridiculous” and “completely daft”. Mother Georgina Prince, 32, of Clayton, Staffs, said: “I’ve bought my five-year-old son Javan a rum and raisin in the past, with no ill-effects.” Liver specialist Dr Alison Brind, from the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, said: “This is a very weak alcohol content.”

Apparently Thorntons are only abiding by the letter of the law, because the alcohol content is, at 0.7%, above the 0.5% threshold mark. They could be prosecuted for selling the product for consumption by anyone under 18.

They've obviously got to talk to their supplier to change the recipe.

I know of a local company in my area, where in their staff rest room and kitchen, the new Health and Safety Manager insisted that next to the kettle, a notice had to be placed on the wall saying "When Operating, kettle may contain Boiling Water".

But you can play the system at their own game. In my last place of work, it was a 15 acre site, surrounded on 3 sides by other properties or yards, with public access o through a gate on the remaining 4th side. I had a visit from a joint H & S, and Essex Police Crime Prevention Team. It was pointed out at the end of their Inspection, that though there was barbed wire atop the fences on the 3 non - public access sides, there were no warning notices to that effect.

I offerred one simple solution; if and when the Essex Police force would comply with the laws, and place warning notices on their Barbed Wire topped fences around Police property, then I'd comply too. Strangely enough, the HSE accepted that! In August last year, our company closed down....5 years after the above decision had been made, and I'd never got warning signs erected yet!
