Inside a week I have rung the local BBC Radio and TV ( something I have never done in the past) and defended:

a) The Humber Bridge Board

b) John Prescott ( our local MP and former DPM)

Should I now wait for the men in white coats in the little yellow van?

I think the authorities already have a nice padded cell reserved for you, BGW. Laughing

The day after the floods (Tuesday), the Humber Rescue service ( who usually try to get to people who try to jump off the bridge) were asked to go over to Grimsby to help folk trapped. The best way for the to get there was by hitching the boat to a trailer and driving across the bridge. As they are not one of the 3 emergency services they were charged the same as anyone else to cross. The usual local numpties rang blunderside to complain. The spokesman explained that there was no provision for the Rescue service to be exempted from payment, also the new launching tractor that they had was supplied by The Bridge Board. My comment was that the board were an easy target.

As for JP, there were complaints that he had not been seen by locals after the floods.

There were no trains from london until Wednesday, so he spent Tuesday getting ministers to help the city.

He was in Hull Wed, Thurs, fri and Saturday, even checking on the constituents of a local (absent) Tory MP.

Irang to say he was doing what he could.
