Another of the classical world's top and veteran musicians, clarinettist Dame Thea King, died last week (amazingly, no BBC news announcement or obituary, I noticed it only when catching up on the minutiae of some of last week's Telegraphs). The best notice is probably the Independant's -

She may not have had the fame and multi-million pound recording contracts of some of our musicians, but she, along with Gervase de Peyer, was probably the leading and most respected player of the classical repertoire of the clarinet.

I only have one of her albums on CD - the Crussell Concertos - but it is a favourite, showing off the range and versatility of the instrument without losing any warmth or clarity of tone.
