Hey, all.
Heading off to Tenerife tomorrow for a week so may be a bit quiet on the posting front.
But then I have been for a while. I'm dissapointed with the output of radio 2 at the moment - Wogans music has become contemporary (too much so), nothing really grabbing me at the moment and so I've been foraging on other stations.
Dare I mention Richard A on BFBS, still grabs my attentions but I find I'm more moving towards classic fm. certainly since Johnny Walker left drive time, I've moved to this station.
And, y'know when you get into your car and turn the ignition, the radio comes on, well previously it was always radio 2. But, lately I've discovered it's always classic music that meets my ears. What does that say?
Even my Saturdays have gone quiet. Once, the radio wouyld only be turned off during the comedy hour - Jonathan Ross is getting dull and even Stuart is the only only oasis in a vast desert of tripe.
So, I've started to rediscover my eclectic cd collection and got in to the classics. Hence, not a lot to say about R2 which is a bit sad as I miss laughing and joining in with all you guys on your likes and dislikes, sometimes I think it's only for the sake of communimg with you that keeps me listening (now and then!)
so, see you in a weeks time - would love to say I'll miss R2 but I eally can't. Will miss reading your posts though.
Wish you all good health and I'll see you in a weeks time. Cue suntan lotion, NO SAND, ELO on the MP3 (why does it put tracks in alphabetical order!!), and a good book in my hands....oh, and the girlfriend along too!!!
Take Care

Enjoy your hols, Andy - and that you'll stay with us at least when you return, even if your R2 listening is going downhill. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Thanks, Gfloyd and Chersk. sorry if my post seemed downbeat, just the current way I'm feeling about our beloved station. I will certainly stay with you guys and R2, feel we need to peel the plaster off and see the new skin underneath.
Will have a great time and see you all soon.

You'll come back to R2 Andy, well I always do, stopped listening to things like Bob Harris, for maybe 2 years, but now, can't miss a Saturday show, be it live or listen again. I now don't always listen to SOTS as if I am honest, I preferred JW doing it. I try and listen to Radders & SM, of an evening and am really enjoying Radders & the Trabuck tart, on the big show, what bits I catch between servicing stops. So have a good break and come back revitalised.

Hi Andy-Firstly, have a great holiday.
Secondly, in answer to the heading in your message I would say very little as far as Radio 2 is concerned as well as this message board-simply put where have all the posters gone-over 200 members registered and still only less than 20 folk posting regularly-bit of a shame really.
Thirdly, good to hear you are stlll tuning into Richard Allinson on BFBS Radio 2-the daily show is still fantastic-I'm sure there are no other dj's on radio playing as much new music as Richard does-certainly the strapline "the soundtrack to your day" could not be more accurate to describe Richard's show.
For completeness what about Allinson's Albums on a Saturday-the best show on planet radio.
Finally, to Radio 2 itself-imho very under whelming of late-the music played during the daytime is dull as dishwater whenever I've tuned in. The station needs to be overhauled with some new presenters brought in-Saturdays as you say are only good for Stuart Maconie although I'm afraid to say I do like Dermot O'Leary's show-I like it for the new bands/music he brings to our attention. Sundays are still stale apart from Johnnie Walker-again Lesley needs to swing the axe-Steve Wright has just got to go-his Sunday Love Songs show is just total rubbish (imho) |

Now, I would agree that Radio 2 has lost it's sparkle. The playlist is too narrow, the same songs get overplayed far too much, and the evening schedule is a mess. Presenters like O'Leary and Mitchell have nothing to say, while Jeremy's show is just rambling on. And Steve Wright is rapidly disappearing up his own giant posterior (where Tim and Janey already are).
Although for me it's the playlist that's the main turnoff. It just doesn't excite me. There's only so many times I can hear that Genesis wardrobe song without wanting to slit my wrists.
I listen less and less, but maybe I'm not the target. Maybe I'm too interested in the music for Radio 2?
But to show how difficult Lesley's job is I disagree with Mark's view of Johnnie Walker. I think his Sunday show is soporific. |

In reply to Mark's question, where have all the posters gone?
Apart from our dissatisfaction with R2 at the moment, I've said pretty much the same in other posts so won't repeat here. I think you can put it down to the time of year, as Jezzas is quiet and I believe other boards are too. Loads of things to do away from the computer at this time of year.
No doubt they'll all be back after the hols or when they hear something they want to post about. It's good to have a break even just for a week.

It should be nice and warm in Tenerife right now. I was in Lanzarote a couple of weeks back, but sadly only for 4 days. And I was working. Nice to experience some sun when the UK was being drenched relentlessly. |
