I was interested to see this article on another site.
"Hard-Fi, whose last sleeve won a top award, are making a statement about the death of album cover artwork with their latest release.
The cover of "Once upon a Time in the West, due out in September, will contain only the title and the declaration "No Cover Art".
Frontman Richard Archer explained this was in response to the decreasing importance of the physical release because of downloads.
"The significance of album covers is becoming little more than a centimetre square on an iPod screen," he told The Times. "the sleeve used to add another dimension to an album, but that seems to be disappearing, which is really sad."
He said it was the only way to go after winning a national plaudit for Stars of CCTV's simple camera motif.
"An album is like a book, and the book cover is an important detail. We had sleeve of the Year in 2005 and we looked at every way of trying to top it. But perhaps the best way is to kill off the sleeve altogether"
Personally I think this is sad-I fondly remember how excited I used to get when I bought an album in the 70's, 80's when they used to have great album sleeves-especially for double albums.
What do others think? |

While I do think the decline of album art is a sad result of CDs and downloads, Mark Radcliffe pointed out this stunt was done 30 years ago by XTC!
So it's not just Hard-fi's music that's tired and dated. I wish their career was dead! Their new single was voted a miss by 86% of respondents to Chris Evans's poll - naturally it is now on the Radio 2 Playlist... |

New Order used to have fairly non-descript covers at one time - without album titles or track listings on occasions. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
