I was intrigued about this article which appeared on another site.

Elton John has claimed that the internet has had a detrimental effect on the music scene, revealing that he would like to see people "tear it down" in the future.

The 'Candle in the Wind' singer told The Sun : The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff. Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn't bode well for long term artistic vision. It's just a means to an end.

The 60 year-old pop star added: "we're talking about things that are going to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that's not going to happen with people blogging on the internet. I mean, get out there-communicate. Hopefully the next movement will tear down the internet.

"Let's get out in the streets and march and protest instead of sitting at home and blogging. I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut the internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span. There's too much technolgy available. I'm sure as far as music goes, it would be much more intersting than it is today"

What do we think-the ramblings of a bitter old man or does he have a point. Still the internet is here to stay so old Elton is going to have lump it I guess.

But the Internet has changed my life for the better! Yet it isn't my be-all and end-all--I still go out and get a life.

Elton John wants to tell his record label to stop issuing so many bloody hits compilations - they seem to have one out every couple of months recently!

Lots of new and emerging talent wouldn't have normally got a look-in if it hadn't been for the Internet - Myspace helps promote lots of bands/artists and I often trawl around for new and interesting music coming out of the UK, USA and Canada. Hell, even Bob Harris has been known to hear new stuff via the Internet then promote same on his programmes.

The Internet has its uses - can the same be said for Elton John? Smile

I think it's sour grapes. By the way, wasn't it his Rocket Records label that cut out all the spoken word bits from Stackridge's Mr. Mick album and issued it with a different running order?

Angel Air have reissued this with Rocket's running order on one disc and how the band wanted it on the other.
