DJs Trevor Nelson and Tim Westwood are joining BBC digital radio station 1Xtra as part of a revamp of the station's presenters and schedule.
A number of DJs are leaving to make way for new talent and big names such as Nelson and Westwood.
Nelson is to host a new breakfast show, along with new signing Zena.
The new programme will feature music, entertainment and celebrity guests.
To coincide with the changes, the 1Xtra breakfast show slot will shift from 6am to 9am to be broadcast between 8am and 11am.
The changes will be introduced from September 10 for the specialist music shows and October 8 for the mainstream shows such as the breakfast programme.
Currently the breakfast slot is filled by Jason and Iyare, who do not feature in the new-look main schedule.
Westwood will front a new hip-hop show exclusive to 1Xtra on Sunday nights between 10pm and midnight.
Both Westwood and Nelson will continue to present their shows on sister station Radio 1.
In addition Friday night hip-hop DJ MistaJam has been promoted to five days a week between 7pm and 10pm.
Meanwhile, from 10pm each night, 1Xtra will have big hitters in specialist music - Ronnie Herel, Robbo Ranx, Bailey, Target and Semtex.
House DJ Footloose and hip-hop specialist Sarah Love will also be joining the station for new mix shows and Crissy Criss is promoted to an earlier slot on Monday nights from midnight to 2am.
Andy Parfitt, the Radio 1 and 1Xtra controller, said: "This is chapter two for 1Xtra as we continue to grow the station. We have the cream of DJ talent showcasing the best black music around and in Trevor and Tim Westwood, the two biggest players in R&B and hip-hop.
"It is important that UK digital radio grows for all audiences, including the young - this evolution of the station is a critical part of building awareness and audiences to digital."
Lorna Clarke, the 1Xtra head of programmes, added: "Over the past five years 1Xtra has demonstrated that there is a huge appetite for UK and international black music.
"We're excited that Trevor Nelson and Tim Westwood, two of the UK's leaders in bringing black music to a mainstream audience, will be joining us appealing to an even wider audience.
"I'd like to thank the DJs leaving the station for all their hard work and wish them well for the future."

Interesting...
How about Radio 1 now move all it's hip hop and so-called R'n'B over to 1extra where it obviosly belongs, then R2 can move Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, Girls Aloud and the like over to Radio 1 where they belong, making room for proper music on Radio 2: more British 1970s/1980s music, more swing and jazz and the return of Your 100 Best Tunes !!

No I won't, I'll just spend longer with other radio stations or a CD on the way home. _________________ Geddon

Oh JohnW that would be complete heaven for me.
Maybe they could revamp the music controllers, and bring some in who aren't teenagers. |
