I think he's a great singer, but yes he can be annoying.

I think he grew up in Chicago, or thereabouts, and holds a dual passport. I remember he had to explain his accent on Live & Kicking every other week.

Do all stage performers have that annoying "projection" voice I wonder. Its essential if they are on a West End stage, but it sounds horribly shrill when they are linking on radio. Elaine Paige has the same problem on radio.
