I did hear the click on the radio when Dr (David) Who switched on the Blackpool lights. It was amazing experience hearing that from my wireless. Laughing Laughing

Actually I do like the new Gareth Gates song. Talking about the pop idols!! Has anyone heard the trailer for " Prom In the Park" and Will Young' being there? Has he got a new song out? Or can Radio 2 not reveal it yet?

Natalie Imbruglia? More like Norman Collier!

Apart from the sound problems, it wasn't so bad, although Dale was at his gushing worst and Gareth Gates was very forgettable.

But it was interesting hearing the 'switch-on' and seeing it happen in the distance (I live on a hill and can see Blackpool easily).

Can somebody please explain what this is all about? Shocked I really don't know!
Are these "lights" tourist/holiday type lights along the seafront? if so, what's the point of leaving it so late, the summer is nearly over!!
or, are they Christmas lights?
This has bewildered me for years...

It is a clever ruse to extend the season by getting people to come to Blackpool in September.

It does work Santa, I was stopping in Blackpool, whilst on courses in 96 for the whole of August, September & October. The weekend the lights were switched on saw a host of new shows and the hotels were again packed for another 2 to 3 weeks. I must admit that Blackpool is an amazing place, so much variety of entertainment and hotels, I always thought it was just a "kiss me quick" hankie on head resort, but not so, even after 3 months we found the place diverse & interesting.

I was there in 98 to see some pals who were there for the weekend. At the time I only lived an hour away by train so it was easy to go there.

Apart from the couple of hours we went to 'Funny Girls' I found it quite depressing. Constant hassle from boys young enough to be my children asking me out, (and even 9 years ago I wasn't that pretty) made us despair of just enjoying a night out as a bunch of (girl) friends.

It did do wonders for my ego, but I just wonder how desparate these boys were to get their leg over! I must have been, even then, twice their age!

Blackpool itself, was, as usual, extremely tacky and overblown.

I never noticed anybody being hassled when I was there QS, yes Funny Girls was hilarious, especially their Christmas Panto. There was plenty of tacky areas, but also some real entertainment, especially the shows at places like the Winter Gardens. You have to choose where you go & stay, keep an open mind and your sense of humour; we had spent 6 weeks in June/ July in Munchen, eine grosse bier bitte, mitt schnaps, danke. It was a little more culturally up lifting, especially raising those bier stiens and singing the Chubby Brown version of "Living Next Door to Alice" to an umpah band in traditional Bavarian costume, the band that is, not us Brits ( an Englishman, a Scotsman & 2 Welshmen ).

I was waiying for the click of the switch to hear the lights go on when at the very same time the phone rang on the table next to the computer so i missed the actual click.
I've waited all year to hear the lights being switched on and missed it due to a phone call.
I tried listen again but it was playing up.
Ah well roll on September 2008!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

He can't do that as it will confuse the listeners like they have with the competitions.
