This message has come in from R2 producer Mark Simpson, I wonder if anyone can help:
>>
I am putting together a special Radio 2 tribute to the late, great Alan Freeman which will go out this Christmas.
I am very keen to find archive recordings of Alan from his early days in the UK, particularly the first Pick Of The Pops (and/or the POTP segment he used to present within 'Trad Tavern') - would you be able to help or do you know someone who might?
<<
Gosh, the first POTP!!! When was THAT? And what was 'Trad Tavern' ???

I've got quite a few of Fluff's Pick of the Pops shows from the 60s - the earliest one is from mid-February 1962, which I think is just a few weeks after the start of the 1-hour POTP show in January 1962. I'd love to hear the first show though! |

I heard the first Sunday show on 7 Jan 62! I hurried back from afternoon Methodist Sunday School to make sure that I was in time. It was a real beginning of an era for me.
But alas--I don't have a recording of it or any other show.
Best of luck with the search.
