....as Alanis Morissette once sang, although what she forgot to include in the words (probably because she couldn't have forecast this) is that as Chris Evans opens each show, isn't it ironic that as he says "Good evening folks and thanks for tuning in" many are tuning out. Or off. Or putting a CD on.

Never mind Chris. Think of how you're helping the planet. Think of how many radios around the country get turned off at 5:05 pm weekdays.

That doesn't entirely agree with my signature but at least I got a sly dig in!

I'm not sure that too many people switch off at 5.05, as they had already done so 3 hours earlier when Steve Wrong comes on.

Loathe the show, Steve!

As many turn on as turn off guys. But you knew that anyway. Deep down. Somewhere. Now stop making mischief. Laughing

Anyway Alanis Morissette obviously didnt understand "Irony". Most of the things she sang about were just bad luck and it would be a stretch to call them "ironic" eg. rain on your wedding day!

It's a drive time show Clott ... a lot of the listeners are in their cars .. so not exactly helping the planet much are they....even if they do switch the radio off. On the other hand some listeners like .. erm... me for example ... have clockwork/solar radios at home .. so when we listen to Chris Evans on our clockwork/solar radios instead of the mains powered ones, we really are helping to save the planet.

Oh BTW, Chris opens the show with Good Evening "Friends"... not folks ... ain't ya been listening?

I agree with Ian on this thread-I like the way Chris opens up his show and thanks us the listeners for tuning in.

I can't recall many of the other presenters on BBC Radio 2 doing this although Richard Allinson always uses the expression "thanks for being there" when he is on air.

Manners maketh man and all that.

..'Aint' ya been listening?' Well I certainly haven't, Rachel. I can't stand the fellow or the one that precedes him. I find my local BBC station much better, although the dreaded playlist syndrome is creeping in here too, with the usual suspect tunes by Abba, Van Morrison and Eagles.

He used to say that on his godawful ITV show a couple of years back as well (OFI Sunday, wasn't it?) when nobody was tuning in at all!

Rather cleverly, Chris opened up with "hello hello" last night .....

that being part of the Shakespeare's Sister track Hello (Turn Your Radio on)

Hello, hello turn your radio on
Is there anybody out there?

Brilliant! Idea
