Tony Blackburn has been answering listeners questions about his radio career, his life, and his recent departure from Classic Gold. When asked about leaving the GCap Media station, Tony explained about the merger with Capital Gold, saying they didn't so much merge it, they massacred it.
The full interview, now online at bbc.co.uk also talks about his time on the pirate radio ships and launching BBC Radio 1 in 1967. He also explains where Arnold the Dog is now.
Talking about the merger, he said: "None of my friends from Classic Gold were offered a job there. I was offered some programmes at the weekend but I felt I didn't want to take them. Luckily I'm at the stage in my life where I can choose a little bit, and it just didn't fit in.
He then goes on to talk about wanting to run the station if he was given the chance. He quite fancies running an oldies station. Now that would be something we'd like to hear too!
Radio Today!!

In 1990 we acquired an English Springer Spaniel. He was about 10 months old then. Our late lamented 'loppy lugs' went to that great doghouse in the sky circa 2002 / 2003, so it's safe to say that a dog acquired in 1967, will have passed on very many years ago!! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack.

Tony Blackburn is an absolute legend.
Lesley Douglas should think about bringing him to Radio 2-so much better than the majority of presenters currently employed by the BBC. |
