THE last time we saw Audrey fforbes-Hamilton she was marrying her nouveau riche nemesis Richard DeVere and being reinstated as lady of the manor in 1981.
Fast-forward a quarter of a century and they're back! Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles are to star in a Christmas special of hit sitcom To the Manor Born on BBC1.
The show was a MASSIVE hit with viewers for three series from 1979 - with one episode pulling in a staggering 24 million fans.
In the plot Audrey had to sell Grantleigh Manor after her husband died, leaving her with huge debts. She moved into one of the lodges in the grounds with her elderly butler and spied on new owner, Richard, through her binoculars. Despite looking down on him for not having her breeding she couldn't help but fancy him and the show ended with them tying the knot.
But what has happened in the 26 years since she moved back to the big house?
A source said: "The main characters will reunite for a one-off special and everyone is thrilled. It'll give fans a chance to see what they've been up to since the 80s."

Could they be trying it out to see if a new series would be viable?

Audrey fforbes-Hamilton was strictly a Radio 4 listener. _________________ Ron

I'm sure the Mirror, if not the web, will gleefully leak the storyline sooner rather than later, but let's imagine for a minute...
No, I'd rather not, actually. The scale of change which our rural life has undergone in the last 25 years, not to mention what is likely to have happened to a multi-national company director and his wife, now aged 71 and 67 respectively, cannot be imagined with any comfort.
These revivals rarely work, serving only to embarass the actors and to illustrate just how much "of its time" the original was. So, Ian, I sincerely hope they're not thinking of a new series. _________________ Ron |
