Former EastEnder Michelle Ryan is staring in the U.S. remake of Seventies TV show The Bionic Woman. Ryan, who played Zoe Slater in the BBC soap, beat a host of Hollywood names to the role and was chosen after an exhaustive search.

Producers say the pilot show for US network NBC will be a "re-imagination" of the original, a spin-off from cult hit The Six Million Dollar Man, which ran from 1976 to 1978.

Ryan, 22, quit EastEnders in 2005 after five years as one of the Slater sisters. Since then she has appeared in British romantic comedy Cashback and will soon be seen opposite Billie Piper in the ITV adaptation of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park.

The London-born actress has been quietly working to establish a career for herself in Hollywood.

The story is: Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teen-aged sister, Jaime Sommers didn't think life could get much harder. But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death's door, Jaime's only hope of survival is through a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price.

With a whole new existence and a debt to repay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good, while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it's Jaime's journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as...The Bionic Woman.

Mark O, do you even read before you cut'n'paste? It's not a Movie - it's a TV series.

Anyway... I hope to see lots of slow-mo running when it turns up on ITV2 soon.

Downloaded the pilot a few weeks ago and to be honest, it was tripe. Michelle Ryan couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag even if she tried. Katie Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) was the best thing about the show, but I really had to think hard about what was good about it....

Given the absolute slating it's getting across in the States (and especially in the SF community, who list it only marginally above the remake of Flash Gordon, which isn't saying much!), it'll be a wonder if it gets picked up for a second season.

There's also a rip-off of 'Forever Knight' which premiered the other night - "Moonlight" - a vampire PI who protects humankind rather than biting them, and who has a soft spot for a reporter (Sophia Myles) who his ex-wife vampire abducted as a child. Saw this last night via download - not too bad, wouldn't make me change channels but I also wouldn't make a special effort to watch it either.

What I do like at the moment is 'Eureka' (known as 'A Town Called Eureka' in the UK). One of the rare SF comedies to make me LOL - the story of a US Marshal who winds up as a sheriff in a closed off community in Oregon which is home to the world's best scientists, who naturally are completely crazy. Saw first season last month (now on SciFi Channel in the UK), already seen 95% of second season via download (not available in UK yet) and third season has already been announced for 2008.

It is on Sky one tues 2/10 8pm - looking forward to it if only to see if it is more than just a 1 trick pony.

Quote from the pilot:

Carter (to gun toting deputy Jo): "Don't shoot at the crazy 'end of the world' machine just yet, okay?"

Treats in future episodes include robot geese, a house that has hurt feelings and oh, enough spoilers already. I'm already looking forward to S3.... Very Happy

I enjoyed Eureka, but I already watch too much telly and I didn't enjoy it enough to keep watching. Besides, I watched it first time round when it was called Northern Exposure Wink

Here's another recommendation: "Pushing Daisies" started in the US at the weekend - I watched the first one last night and it was a complete hoot from start to finish.... Laughing

The plot revolves around Ned, who as a boy discovered that he had the ability to bring the recently-deceased back to life. This gift comes with a price, however - if he touches them again, they die permanently, and if he doesn't touch them again within 60 seconds, someone else dies ("It's a random proximity thing.") 20 years later, he's a pie-maker with a neat sideline - he brings the recently-murdered back to life to find out who killed them, collecting the reward and sharing same with his PI partner....

I haven't laughed so much in years.... well, not since seeing the episode of "Special Unit 2" when O'Malley and Benson track down a monster made up of the discarded body fat from liposuction operations.... Laughing
