Gordon Brown is calling on GPs to have surgeries open at least one evening per week and/or on Saturdays.
I don't disagree in principle but can he be sure that there are enough resources available to cover this without running staff into the ground? We all need to have time for recreation and family life.
And, before there are comments about GPs current salaries, don't forget that nursing, reception staff etc would need to be present for extra hours, too.

It would reduce the number of visits to A&E so could well save money. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Our GP has no surgeries after 12pm on a Thursday. He is the only one I know of that operates half day closing. _________________ Geddon

he/she probably needs a rest before covering the out-of-hours on Thurs nights, for which he got a pay rise to give up and then gets paid again to do |
