The One Show, on BBC1, is currently using a group of volunteers to assess whether people have male or female brains, something that isn't necessarily defined by actual gender.

I'm very male on such things as map reading and losing socks but am not very mechanically minded and, if I'm doing DIY in a group, I'm more likely to be asked to make the tea than do anything very technically complicated or requiring manual dexterity.

I wouldn't have known where to start in the minor construction job that the group of volunteers on last night's show was given.

How do YOU fit in?

Ian.

I've got a female brain for map reading (I really do have to turn the map upside down if we're heading south), but I think I have a male brain for driving. My husband says I drive too fast, and am aggressive. I'm not so sure about that, but I have no problems swopping between automatic or manual, right hand drive or left hand drive vehicles, European right hand driving or UK left hand driving (well not so long as I am concentrating!)

Ive got a male brain for things mechanical, but a female brain for spatial ability (although I did once assemble an MFI wardrobe single-handed).

But although I can multi-task, I can't multi-concentrate, which I think is a female trait.

We've now done a test on the One Show website and confirmed that we're both fairly in the middle in this area in general.

Why not have a go? It'll probably take 20/30 minutes.

I'm more or less middling as well and prefer the more feminine faces in the test.

Last night's One Show featured Listening and I'm definitely on the male side there - can only concentrate on one source at a time.
