Amazing: a talent show winner at No.1, a cover version of Tiffany's biggest seller by some slappers apparently famous for being, er, slappers, at No.4 and two re-issues of past Christmas hits at Nos.6 and 10.... no wonder I have ab zero interest in what the charts are about nowadays (which begs the question why I looked at this thread.... Rolling Eyes ) Smile

(Nothing against 6 and 10 per se, heard them on TOTP2's Christmas run-down last night and they're still good - thankfully though I didn't see Mariah's video when she was dressed up in a Santa outfit....)

Think it's the Tiffany one.

Lene Lovich did record it, but I don't recall Kirsty doing so. It is the song originally a hit for Tommy James & The Shondells, subsequently covered by Tiffany.

The current Top 10, nay the Top 40, will surely go down as the worst Christmas chart ever, at least until next year, with the reissued Pogues a shining light amongst the dross.

The X-Factor winner making No 1 was a foregone conclusion, as there have effectively been no other significant new releases for three weeks; since the pop market is now controlled by two companies (Universal and Sony BMG) it is easy to make sure that, if you want a No 1 you can easily "manage" it - and at full price, I noticed - lots of lovely profit from gullible Joe Public.

Didn't The Shondelles first record 'I Think We're Alone Now' or am I thinking of another track? <I'll feel really, really stupid if I'm wrong, so don't shout at me> Very Happy

Yep, they did. Tiffany apparently didn't want to record it as she didn't think it was 'modern' enough for her target audience. Good job her manager didn't listen to her, as it was her best-selling single. Smile
