Whilst holidaying in Australia this past month the radio station we tuned into daily whilst driving around was the above named.
Have to say thought the station was truly excellent-the tag line for the station is "Home of Classic Hits".
I found the DJ's/presenters to be very informative, the playlist vast and varied with very much a focus on playing music as opposed to DJ's inane natter/drivel.
Interestingly enough this station has Jono Coleman broadcasting on it in the afternoon's-imho I thought he was very average when compared to other of his colleagues presenting on this station.
One story which caught my attention one day is worth sharing. One of the presenters was talking about the times when the station ran into financial problems in years gone by-one simple measure they took was to dispense with their travel presenters (thus saving money paying considerable salaries) and instead they asked their newsreaders to present travel bulletins as well. Interestingly enough this measure increased the popularity of their newsreaders quite considerably with the listening audience as well as saving lots of money for the radio station-a win win situation
With the current debate going on in the UK re the BBC and staff cuts/saving money the above story struck a cord with me-can you imagine the alter ego who is Lyn Bowles being told your time is up as your job is being passed to one of the regular newsreaders.
By the way 4KQ can be found on the internet-a great listen if you ever find daytime Radio 2 boring, predictable etc. |

The problem is that although anybody could read it on-air you still need somebody to collect, collate and prepare the information. At the moment, the traffic team presenters do this job, but if you pushed them out of the door you'd then have to employ people to get the bulletins into a form where they could be handed to the on-air presenters and read out. So it might not be such a saving. |

I'd be happy to see the travel items disappear altogether! They only apply to a small section of listeners and do we need them in this age of technology? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
I have heard how radio should be. |

Oh yes I understand that he went back home to look after his mother. |

I must disagree Santa, thousands of us service engineers, company reps white van persons, HGV drivers listen and rely on Lynn, Sally & Bobby everyday as we drive to you and yours to service/repair/deliver your requirements.

I hate it when I'm sat in a tailback on the way into the (total waste of money) M1 South widening ponly to be told there's a tailback where I am right now.
And often, they've got it completely wrong anyhow! |
