Friends of a TV newsreader whose body was found at a notorious suicide spot in Sydney have told of her "brave and private battle with depression".

Charmaine Dragun, 29, was "determined not to allow it to control her", they wrote in a letter published in Monday's edition of The Australian newspaper.

I'm sure depression can effect people in different ways? Not the way I would kill myself, as the help is there for myself. This story isn't about me, but very sad how people who have watched her thought that she wasn't worried and depressed in her private life. I feel sorry for those who have tried, but felt that there was no way else to go, but to commit suicide.

You can't see depression and the most unexpected people can suffer from it. I hope that the friends of this lady who didn't spot any symptoms can be helped to forgive themselves--I'm sure what happened isn't their fault.

Ian.

Sometimes its the weight of expectations that stops people seeking help. They are afraid of letting people down. Of course its not logical but people arent always in a position to think clearly.
