Severe flood warnings are in place on parts of the east coast of England, with the Environment Agency warning of "extreme danger to life and property".
Prime Minister Gordon Brown was chairing an emergency Cobra meeting, as low pressure and strong winds combined to cause a North Sea tidal surge.

Gordon Brown will be keeping on top of things. Unless the water surge gets in first. |

What if you live on a houseboat in the Blackwater estuary? |

Leave it behind. You can rebuild things, but not your life. |

Alternatively, Mark, you could stay on it. Boats float on water, y'know! No need to move out therefore.... |

There will be questions once again after this 'are our flood defences working? Is the government ploughing enough money into helping those who are hit by this year on year out? |

Just looking out of our window, there's lots of cars pulled up along the cliffs here looking at the sea and the harbour mouth. I can also hear emergency vehicle sirens about the town.
As posted on another thread, our local radio has warned of the possibilty of a 3 metre tidal surge in the early hours and parts of the town have already been evacuated.
Last year, they built a massive catchment tank below the lower promenade right outside our place. It's supposed to drain off any major flooding around the river edge which is always a problem at these times.
I wonder if it'll work. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Quite surreal here at the moment. I can see three harbour piers from my window all of which are nearly underwater. The skies are a very dark grey to the north yet brightish to the south, it's raining and about 200 or so people are along the cliffs looking at the situation.
There's also about half a dozen surfers making the most of the big waves! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
