Hi Scott-See that we are expecting a surge tide down the River Thames tonight-the Thames Flood barrier is going to be in action to prevent flooding which is predicted in both some parts of Kent and Essex-Dartford is expected to be affected.

You live in Thurrock don't you-that's near the River Thames isn't it.

Hope you stay dry if you are in the said area.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the warning! Shocked

I work in Basildon, and at around 3.30pm we had an awful storm outside! The sky went dark and suddenly the rain was lashing it down in the howling wind! It was like a hurricane or tornado was going on outside! I work in a tall 9-floor office and the whole building was shaking! There was also a few flashes of lightening outside - and the electrics inside (mostly the lights) kept flickering. We then had a power cut for approximately 10 minutes before everything was restored - including the weather outside!

Driving home roughly an hour ago, the visibility on the A13 was quite poor due to surface spray on the road. I made it home in one piece but I have got to go shopping at Lakeside (and Tesco) a little later on! I hope I don't get caught in any storm!

Confused

By the way, I forgot to mention that I live in Aveley (which is in Thurrock). Luckily where I live it's a hilly area! I'm situated roughly 3 miles from the River Thames. I can see the QE2 Bridge from where I live (and Canary Wharf, which is just 14 miles up the A13).

Gordon Brown will be keeping a close eye on things. I wonder if he will wade down Norfolk to help to remove people from their homes.. Laughing

Why? Doesn't each local authority and emergency service employ people to do such things?

A Cobra meeting was held this evening. So the main man is Gordon Brown keeping up to date.

Although I live in Norfolk, I'm ok, my place is about 50 feet above the sea! which I have to add is looking pretty high down at the harbour here! Confused
One of our night staff has just phoned to say her street is under threat tonight so she won't be in... Rolling Eyes

But no need for him to be out there manning barricades or slopping people out, as I pointed out so eloquently.

Anyway, mine's a Tiger rather than Cobra.

One of our local radio stations ( Broadland ) has said there could be a 3 metre tidal surge in the early hours...... could be 53 all over again.
They are evacuating large areas of the town.

What - at 2.26am? You have a 24-hour Tesco near you obviously!

Yeah, that's right! The only time the store is closed is on Sunday nights. I guess the staff have Sunday night off to party hard to Russell Davies Wink
