Did anybody else watch the Imagine documentary about Love, based on the Beatles music. I was enthralled, not only did it put into context the new Love album for me, but the performance of the acrobats was brilliant,IMHO. Cool There is a programme on R2 about this, New Years Eve day,1 PM , I look forward to this as hopefully it will enlighten me enough to buy the love album, maybe the 1st of 2007 Question My favourite track, that I have so far heard all the way through, is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", then it was always my favourite off The White Album anyway.

I did watch it, I was more interested in how they mixed the tracks and what they included than the Cirque de Soleil acrobatics, which I thought a bit cartoonish and cliched. Having read the pre-release articles in some papers, which mentioned that the Martins had used bits of 100 songs, I was a little disappointed that the illustrations they gave didn't add more than a couple to those I'd picked out from listening to the album - present count is 53 (must get out more).

As a lifelong Beatles fan I must admit I was slightly underwhelmed on first listen to the CD, and I can understand why some people have dismissed it as a glorified Stars on 45 medley or a posh mash-up. With repeated listens you appreciate that it is much more than that, that it has so many layers and textures to it, that the sound quality is superb (amazingly so given the ropey sound of some of the CDs of the original albums), and that you also (still) marvel at the source material and the touch and ear of the man who produced it for record.

Thanks for that RR, I thought it was fascinating how Martin Snr & Jnr worked so well together and with some of the explanations about where they got the original sound tracks from, ie the Ronnie Scott sax solo and the John Lennon Strawberry Fields original, I was just enthralled. I will definitely listen to the R2 show on Jan 1, live, as I suspect it may not be on the listen again facility, for copyright reasons. In fact I will probably record it on my Freeview box HDD, then I know I will be able to listen to it at my leisure and enjoy all the more. Like you I am a life long fan of the Beatles, also the Stones and many other 60's & 70's bands, I feel that we are having a little renaissance of talented bands at the moment to. My 18 year old grandson plays some real crap, along with some really good new bands, but he still listens to Beatles, Stones & Yardbirds music and he is just getting into Pink Floyd & the Doors, which is great Cool

Yes, I'd not appreciated the Ronnie Scott solo sax before, so that was interesting, and the gradual morphing of John's demo of Strawberry Fields into the real thing with the ending involving Hey Bulldog, Sgt Pepper, In My Life, Penny Lane, Piggies AND Hello Goodbye is awesome.

The 18 year old in my family is my son, and he's disillusioned with all music, recorded or his own, at the moment. However, if I find any Beatles or Queen albums of mine missing I'll usually find them round his player, so all is not lost yet.

Likewise & similiar Ron, eldest grandson lives with us, he is just back from 2 1/2 months in Oz. Found my Best Of The Doors CD missing and after we watched the 94 recording of Dark Side Of The Moon, my Cd has mysteriously disappeared! He says "they have gone to a better place garmps". I know differently! Wink.
