I heard a bit of Melodies for You in the car earlier. I was surprised to hear Alan Titchmarsh playing a Perry Como record!

I thought Melodies for You was a show for light and popular classics, parlour music and the odd bit of stage and screen? Mind you, I have forgotten that Alan only plays HIS favourite music on the show. They might as well rename it "The Alan Titchmarsh Collection". Rolling Eyes

I gave up on Titchy ages ago. Today's playlist included a few light classical items and film items but I see Como, Monro and even Clapton there too.

At least Desmond's mixed bag show has an interesting theme but I just can't be doing with Titchy's mixed bag. Como and Monro are what Jacobs and maybe Russell Davies could be playing later on tonight.

Confused

John,

You echo my thoughts. Again, there is too much overlap between Alan Titchmarsh, Desmond Carrington, Russell Davies and David Jacobs.

For what it's worth I think Melodies for You should be renamed/revamped into a new show featuring 'the best of everything', minus Alan's record collection. The BBC has access to masses and masses of music from the BBC Library, so why not make better use of it rather than having Alan Titchmarsh playing just his favourite music?

Lady Boil De Spudswell would like to hear a "Back To The Island" show on Radio 2 that showcases the best of the BBC Library - and everything else. Such a show wouldn't be a bad thing on a Sunday night.

I wonder if Lesley Douglas will "dilute" Carrington, Davies and Jacobs' shows to create just one programme featuring the music they play? Davies and Jacobs are very similar.
