Have you noticed that some shows on Radio 2 sound better when a stand-in hosts it!

Sarah Kennedy > > > Alex Lester / Aled Jones / Richard Allinson

Wake Up to Wogan > > > Johnnie Walker

Steve Wright > > > Mark Radcliffe

Chris Evans > > > Stuart Maconie

Dermot O'Leary > > > Pete Mitchell

Sunday Love Songs > > > Richard Allinson / Lulu

Elaine Paige > > > Paul O'Grady

Johnnie Walker (Sunday) > > > Richard Allinson

I wonder if the audience figures go up/down for the above shows whenever the stand-ins are in place? Anyway, the only time I really listen to the above programmes is when the stand-ins are hosting them. They sound so much better (in my opinion).

Any thoughts?

p.s. This topic is not for the purpose of slagging off Sarah Kennedy and Chris Evans! Exclamation Evil or Very Mad

Hi Scott. I don't usually listen to the first six shows, so I won't comment. I prefer Elaine to Paul O'Grady (in this musical spot) and Johnnie Walker has my full attention on Sunday. The last two shows with Eric Clapton and then Don Henley from The Eagles were rare treats indeed! I'd like to hear Richard Allinson back on Saturday afternoons, but I doubt La Douglas would sanction it, as it would please lots of listeners and Dermot and the so-called comedy hour would be history! This applies to almost anyone who stands in for Steve Wright or Elaine Paige.

I'm sorry but I think Chris Evans is way way better than Stuart Maconie who I find lacks the warmth of a good radio host (only my opinion)

If Walker sounds better than Wogan on brekkie, and Allinson better than Walker on the Sunday slot, don't you just mean Allinson would be better than Wogan?!!!

I disagree with most of the choices, but (surprise surprise) agree with Maconie at 5. The guy is a warm host, this particularly shows on his Saturday show when he chats to people. Hopefully his retro quiz will be reinstated soon!!!

If we include Wogan and Bruce in the above list then I agree as well.
