I quite like this song by Glen Campbell but why is it supposed to be Steve Wright's theme song.

Any idea folks?

Confused It isn't supposed to be his theme tune, it is his theme tune.

I don't know, but why did Johnnie Walker use Because they're Young?

Maybe Steve pinched it from an American station.
Whatever the reason, it's a great tune for end of the Big Show.... Razz

Why does SW insist on playing that awful jingle / fill-in tune on the hour, is it just to make the news always late ? Mad

He doesn't end the show with the theme anymore. Maybe copy rights prevented him using it anymore?

This has got me thinking.

Do other DJ's/presenters have theme songs for their shows.

I've never paid that much attention to this before but now I'm curious.

For example Alan Freeman always used to start his Radio 1 Saturday afternoon rock show with a collection of different musical offerings but I'm not sure I would class them as a theme song(s).

Mark,
They used to. Not so much any more though.

It seems to be going the same way on tv now though. Gone are the days of good theme tunes like on Only Fools & Horses.

The reason is that originally radio & tv shows were crafted as individual programmes whereas now the individual shows are secondary to the overall station image & marketing. Hence end-credit squeezing on tv shows.

Brian Matthew uses 'Foot tapper' by The Shadows to close Sounds Of The 60s on Saturdays.

Pete Mitchell keeps using Noel Edmonds old theme (Andre Brasseur's The Kid) behind his ramblings during his show.

One or two theme tunes still going--Dale Winton has retained At the Sign of the Swinging Cymbal for POTP.

Chris Evans uses his old TFI theme tune on Fridays and his jingle is more tuneful than regular Radio 2 ones, but most 'theme tunes' now seem to be the backgrounds when they're telling you what's on the show/reading texts. Richard Allinson used "Porcelain" for instance...

Looking at the David Jacobs 'Music Played' page, I see that the first & last track is 'I Love You Samantha' by Pete Moore. I would guess that that is his theme tune.

I don't listen to DJ much these days but Samantha has been his theme tune for decades. I remember him using it on Pick of the Pops in the early 60s--nice tune.

Samantha Juste was the TOTP girl and allegedly a friend of DJ. She later married Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees.
