(I could have put this in News, but thought the Coffee Bar a warmer, friendlier place for it)
Sad to note the death on Saturday of actor and sometime director Anton Rodgers - http://news.independent.co.uk/people/obituaries/article3220984.ece
Most people will remember him from the cosy family tv sitcoms Fresh Fields and May to December but he was a very-well-spoken, accomplished and versatile actor, and a singer more in the Rex Harrison mould - I remember seeing him as Mr Jingle opposite Secombe's Pickwick - "A Bit of a Character, Too". _________________ Ron |

He always struck me as a true gentleman, and I particularly liked his rendition of 'Thankyou very much' from "Scrooge". I hope that he gets a special mention if it played again over christmas. _________________ Geddon

I've grown up watching Anton on tv but my fondest memories of him will be as grandpa Potts in the OLC of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I saw the show a number of times and the chemistry on stage between Anton, Michael (Ball) and the children was a lovely thing to see. I saw him at the stagedoor once and he was charming and friendly and chatted away happily with the waiting crowd.

I knew of him from 'May To December' - I wonder if Planet Rock will play Ozzy Osbourne's 'Perry Mason' in memory of his character in the sitcom naming his son Perry?
The Five channel repeated 'Old Bear Tales' which he narrated too - a lovely children's programme.
I was too young to know of him playing Mr. Jingle in 'Pickwick' - it was always this character's name that came up in comparison with Simon Callow as Tom Chance in 'Chance In A Million'! The way he spoke in headlines. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.
