The Winner of X-Factor may not be Christmas Number One this year. It's because you can now download music and they are counted in the charts. Wham - Last Christmas and Aled Jones - Snowman song could hit the charts and even become Number One.

OK start to download them..

Downloads have counted in the charts since April 2006! And the rule that there has to be a physical release as well has been away since the start of January this year!

Didn't stop Leona Lewis last year did it! In fact as the morons who are obsessed with these reality shows are more likely to download than buy physical singles it is more likely that the winner WILL get to number 1. Unless of course they don't make it available to buy / download until after the Christmas chart is compiled

Looked at Sundays Download Chart and Andy Williams - It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year is listed at Number 32 and also in the normal as well along with.... Pogues Ft Kirsty Maccoll Fairytale Of New York, Wham - Last Christmas, Shakin Stevens, Slade and Band Aid are all in the Top 40 .

Looks like there's a surprise contender for no 1!

Katie Melua and Eva Cassidy's version of What A Wonderful World which was released on Monday and is available exclusively through Tescos stores and website is sitting at no 1 on the midweek charts. All profits go to the British Red Cross

I have only heard this duet once and not all the way through, I did like what I heard, but will always prefer Satchmo's wonderful original version.

Oh, it's the lesser of 2 evils - that Eva & Katie song is pretty rotten but at least profits are going to charity (and, no, I'm not an Eva Cassidy fan: nice voice but basically a run-of-the-mill pub singer elevated to mythic status by dying).

As for X-Factor - of course it'll be Number 1! On Steve Wright's show yesterday, Cliff Richard stopped just short of saying that Cowell & Co. manipulate the charts through downloads. As Cowell and Walsh have a history of bulk-buying to get their acts to Number 1 I expect it's even easier for them now.

They played Leon Jackson's single twice on the Radio 1 chart show today (why?? its not even in the bloody chart!) and I have to say it sounds crap! In fact it makes Westlife seem good, and that's no mean feat!

Tom Petty's album The Last DJ sums it up perfectly, especially the tracks 'When Money Becomes King' & 'Joe'. You can check out the lyrics here. http://tompetty.com/album17.htm
