Appreciate on this message board I am in a minority but I really like Dermot O'Leary when he's on Radio 2 .I came across the above heading recently which I think makes quite interesting reading.

1-Dermot was born Sean Dermot Finton O'Leary in Essex.

2-Dermot is a committed Roman Catholic and was an altar boy in his schooldays.

3-We have former broom cupboard alumnis Andi Peters to thank for Dermot's bigbreak. After strating as a DJ on BBC Radio Essex, he became a runner and then a researcher and warm up presenter on Channel 4's Mel and Sue's Light Lunch. After lots of screen tests, he was spotted by Andi and a stint on T4 swiftly followed.

4-Dermot considers himself to be Irish rather than British or English. He says: "I've always had an Irish passport and obviously growing up in Essex is different from growing up in Limerick or Tipperary or Wexford but I'm still Irish. To me there's no difference between being second-generation Irish and second-generation Asian".

5-Dermot is a bit of a sports fiend. He is a huge fan of Arsenal, plays Rugby, has run the London Marathon and used to be very good at American Football. "For 5 years in Colchester, there were a lot of American airbases round the time. I played it between the ages of 15 and 24," he explains. "I loved it; I think I can run quite fast."

6-Dermot lives in North London with his Norwegian gorlfriend Dee Koppang, a producer whose credits include Princess Nikki and Shipwrecked. The couple have been dating for 5 years.

7-Is Dermot superstitious? "This is really weird but I kiss the window before I go to bed each night," he admits. "I don't know why, I've just always done it. Even when I'm drunk, I don't forget."

8-Dermot is a huge fan of Sir Terry Wogan and met his idol at a Terrance Higgins Trust bash. He recalls: "I had this really s*** conversation with him, which you always do with your idols. I was like (puts on a baby voice), "I really like you." That's all I remember before he made his excuses and moved on."

9-Dermot would sleep with Nadia Almada if he had to get jiggy with a Big Brother housemate. "I'd sleep with Nadia just for the hell of it" he says.

10-Dermot has a strange recurring dream. He says: I used to dream that I was on a rollercoaster and that my teeth kept falling out."

He really does come across an an arrogant ungrateful twat sometimes doesn't he? All this stuff about considering himself Irish not English, etc. If he wanted to learn from Terry like he claims, he would realise that you can be both and that if you want to be a star of British tv, it helps if you dont go around dissing the entire audience.

Also what is it with this committed Catholic stuff? Its like he is trying to tel us about how virtuous he is? How does this reconcile with being the figurehead for the cynical expolitation that is Big Brother?

I don't like the guy on radio, but I have to say (reluctantly) that I think he is fairly professional on TV. On radio I find him really sycophantic, gushy, breathy, and incredibly ill informed. I think he needs to take stock of himself, he could go a lot further. But he's so up himself at the moment that the chances of that are diminishing weekly. There's more to it than this Dermot - get a grip. Wink

How can he be soooo Irish, yet an Arsenal fan???
Couldn't be anything to do with the fact that they're successful and popular could it? Mad
