|
|
The BBC has fewer fresh and original shows than ever before, say viewers. The corporation's own research found only half of those polled think the channel delivers quality programmes. People think the BBC is too dominated by a "clutter" of entertainment, celebrity, reality shows and soaps. The criticism comes as the BBC plans huge budget cuts to programming.
I wonder if the BBC's radio bosses have studied this research-they might well learn something if they did. |

I've been turned off all terrestial channels for the same reason.
My missus watches too many soaps, most of the X-factor type stuff and most of the unreal reality shows |

A lot of truth in this but any organisation that can turn out something of the quality of Cranford must have some redeeming features.

Eh? The book was written 150 years ago. The Beeb have a good costumes department or good contacts. They spend money on Wossie and can still afford Denchy. Did they research Victorian Shropshire/Cheshire accents for the series ? |

Well I certainly disagree with you there nod. 'Life on Mars' was very good television and John Simm and Philip Glenister were excellent in the series.
The character of DCI Gene Hunt played by Philip Glenister was the best police character since the days of The Sweeney. 'Dr Who' confirmed David Tennant as the best actor since Robert Carlyle, in my view. 'Spooks' which I watched last night was perhaps a little too close to the truth for your sensitive tastes? |

I too disagree with you Nod.
I think the series Dr Who, Spooks and Life on Mars are excellent- they are of great quality and are thoroughly enjoyable with great characters/storylines.
Sadly though there is not enough high quality programmes on the BBC these days imho. |

I think the thing missing from the BBC line-up nowadays is good comedy or entertainment shows that don't involve phone votes at the end. What's wrong with a half-hour show that just wants to entertain, eh? |

Each to his own.
Life on Mars is a remake of The sweeney / the professionals, and Dr Who is about as wooden as our front door and has simply become a show for the celebrities to appear but then again it is a kids show, pity it's show in prime time. and what's the premiere carry on all about ?
As for my senstive tastes
Merry Xmas and enjoy the Kylie Dr Who special |

Agreed nod, each to his/her own. David Tennant is a fine actor who I first noticed in 'Casanova' with Peter O'Toole and then in 'Blackpool' with David Morrissey. He made 'Dr. Who' magical again.
'Life on Mars' was set in the seventies, but it had the 'time travel' element to lift it above the normal cops and villains show, plus the great comedic lines from DCI Gene Hunt.
'Spooks' is very much to my tastes too. Cheers and Merry Christmas to you, nod! |

I was a great fan of Dr Who in the 60s and 70s but never got into it again and the recent series had poor stories so never got into them either
Spooks? Silly.
Never caught Life on Mars, will watch out for repeats (I like the Sweeney) |

I finally moved into the 21st century and bought an all-singing, all-dancing 32" HD widescreen last week. I am watching all sorts of wildlife and travel programmes and am enthralled by the detail.
I must admit, however, that I am perplexed by the people I hear in the pub who brag about their super-duper TV's and then talk about watching Eastenders, Emmerdale, Corrie and X-factor. May I suggest a 14" black and white would do the job just as well...... _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |

As we're still on 405 lines here in gas lit Norfolk, I'd love to see Tanya from Eastenders in HD...
as well as lions and flutterby's too of course. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
