Danny Baker didn't last long at Radio 1.

Danny Baker was on Radio 1 for 3 years, from October 1993 to September 1996. During that time he offered Matthew Bannister his resignation three times. Bannister refused to accept it and renewed Banker's contract.

Danny Baker quit Radio 1 for good in September 1996 to host a new Saturday morning football with Danny Kelly on Radio 5 Live: Baker & Kelly Upfront. The show went out from 11.00am - 1.00pm. It was impossible for Baker to host both Saturday shows because they would have clashed with one another, so he opted to quit Radio 1.

According to the new Radio Times, Maconie and O Leary are swapping back this coming weekend, with SM 2-4.30 and DO'L 4.30-6.30. I wish they would leave things alone. Either that or get someone who isn't going to want to to take timeoff or switch slots so they can do a TV show on another channel, not even a BBC channel!

That's a shame as I was enjoying Saturday afternoons once more. Oh well another listener lost from Radio 2 in the afternoon.

That's more to my liking, prefer SM in the earlier slot, can switch over for the footie results when O' Bysmal comes on. Very Happy

What is so special about Dermot O'Leary? He's rubbish on Radio 2 and was a ratings disaster on London's XFM. I think it was wrong of Lesley Douglas to move Dermot to a temporary early slot just so as it didn't interfere with X Factor.

I'm pleased Stuart Maconie has been moved back to 2pm. Normal service is resumed.

Same here! Although the trailers for Dermot have said 2pm so we'll have to see what happens.

According to the Radio 2 website, Stuart Maconie will be on at 2pm and Drippy O'Leary at 4.30pm tomorrow:

Personally I would have had Pete Mitchell in Dermot's slot, as he's up what he's talking about Music and Dermot on overnights? It probably was Pete choice to do over nights?

It was Pete's choice to host weekend overnights on Radio 2. He quit Virgin Radio because he had had enough of the early starts and wanted to move on.

Yeah, right. As if anyone chooses the graveyard slot.

He most certainly did. Alex Lester has hosted the weekday graveyard slot since 1987!

Yeah, but really... would anyone choose to go from a highly-promoted flagship show to one in the middle-of-the-night at the weekend? The only possible reason for choosing that would be to get on the network in the hope of moving up, not because it's a great slot.
