Saw this on whatever the day of the week the 2nd Jan was and it was brilliant, a really good, lively show, really really enjoyed it.

Brilliant show, fantastic cast. I'm going back later this month to see the show again myself.

I'm going in March - Hairspray matinee followed by La Cage aux Folles last-night performance. Laughing

I wasn't tempted when I went to London recently, but have now heard so many good things that I'll give it a try next time.

We are still discussing seeing Hairspray. A number of people in the office have seen it and highly recommend it.

Mel Smith leaves on the 26th Ian Talbot (lately director of open air theatre in Regents Park) takes over on the 28th Jan. Mel only signed for three months as he's reprising his play about Winston Churchill in the West End soon. I'm sorry I won't get to see him again before he leaves.

Took my wife to see Hairspray last night and had a most excellent evening. The show really was phenomenal. Michael Ball and Mel Smith are fantastic together and had me crying with laughter at the end of "Timeless to Me".

The only thing we didn't like about the evening was that there was no mention that Ellie (who happens to be a friend of mine's fiancée) who plays the part of Penny was being understudied, which is bad for both the understudy who doesn't get the credit she deserved, and the lead actress (Ellie) who gets any bad press from the understudy.

It really is a fantastic night out though - much slicker than the movie, and almost through sung. the plot construction is different too with everyone going to prison at the end of act 1.

"the plot construction is different too with everyone going to prison at the end of act 1."

The musical follows the plot line of the Broadway show and if I remember rightly the original film where they all got sent to prision. Hairspray has won just about every award going this year and deservedly so.

Yeah, that was in the papers a few weeks back - big interview for a broadsheet where he said he's loving it so much (but is doing less shows per week, I think).

Yes, I went to the Fringe. Saw 30 shows in 6 days. It should have been 5 days but they canceled the train home so we spent an extra night watching shows (until dawn, because we couldn't get a place to stay).

My niece got the movie on DVD for Christmas, and she's just won her school's 'Stars In Their Eyes' competition for singing 'Good Morning Baltimore'!

They had to change the verse about the flasher, though.

I will be back on July 25th to see Hairspray. Last day for most of the original cast (who haven't already left). Should be a great atmosphere.

Phill Jupitus played Mrs. Turnblad when my sister and elder niece saw it in Manchester! Brian Conley was the dad, I think.

The tour of 'Hairspray' got underway tonight in Cardiff. Michael Ball is back as Edna for the Cardiff run and various venues throughout the tour.
