Bob Harris would be excellent on late-night Radio 2, say 11pm - 2am followed by Janice Long. He would be an improvement to the current mish-mash broadcast after 10pm weeknights.

11.00pm Bob Harris
2.00am Janice Long
4.30 - 7.30am Alex Lester

Bob's Saturday night slot could be taken over by Steve Lamacq.

I somehow doubt that a guy recovering from cancer wants to work 4/5 nights a week to 2am.

You are probably right ernie, however, he might prefer working 1700 to 1900, 5 nights a week, I certainly would prefer he did that. Just a pity that I can't see it happening though.

Has Johnnie Walker sat in for Bob Harris on Saturdays?

Axed. Something that should have happened to her decades ago.

Bob Harris plays a diverse playlist and would be something different late at nights during the week. Remember, most other stations at that time of night are playing cheesy love songs. You don't get none of that rubbish with Bob Harris.

Remember the days when Bob Harris used to present the overnight show on Radio 1? He was hugely popular and offered something different.

My mother having survived a form of that dreadful disease, I know that the treatment (which is a long term treatment) does take the whack out of you, and the after effects are felt for some time after the treatment itself has stopped. I would certainly wonder whether the across-midnight slot of his normal show is more knackering than his stint on Drivetime was. Even given that his night time show is only once a week. I guess only Bob himself can answer that one. As I recall, when John Dunn relinquished the Drivetime show to Johnnie Walker about 10 years ago (is it really that long ago?! Shocked) Johnnie only did Monday-Thursday while Des Lynam did the Friday show (it seems as though TV celebs on the radio isn't such a new idea after all) Perhaps they could split the Drivetime week up again, this time between 'His Bobship' and, perhaps Stuart Maconie (Still, to me, the natural successor to Johnnie Walker IMHO) or Richard Allinson who also did an excellent job on the show in Johnnie's absence.

Hi your Lordship, yes cancer is an evil disease, I hope that Bob stays in remission as I have had my own personal and family dealings with cancer. I loathe this disease with all of my body & soul. Maybe you would care to watch the video at the link below, enjoy and maybe make a donation.

Sorry off topic a bit but not too far, hope your mother stays in remission, mine has for over 25 years.

Phil,

Johnnie Walker succeeded John Dunn, who retired in 1998. You are correct; Johnie did host Drivetime Monday to Thursday; Des Lynam hosted the show on Fridays. However, Johnnie Walker also used to be on Saturday afternoons from 3.30 - 5.30pm, so he was on the air 5-days-a-week but used to have Fridays off because he was on Saturday. My guess is Johnnie enjoyed his day off!

Thanks for that Scott. Yes, I do remember enjoying Johnnie Walker on Saturday afternoons and then Janice Long and later still Richard Allinson. Those were the days indeed. Thanks for the timetables. I see Bob Harris was still in the over midnight Sat/Sun spot even then! Very Happy Of course the scene would probably have looked like this in those days.

Thanks for that BB, I wonder if they'll take up that marshalling system at Popham's events this year!!
Here's the view of Bob in the new studio. The view you don't seem to get these days!

BB I should have added that I'm glad your mother made a recovery. Glad to say, the hospital no longer needs to see mine either.

Thank you your Lordship, where would we be without our mothers, I'm almost 60 and she still tells me off and to drive carefully. All I can do is wish you and yours a healthy, active and happy life.
