The BBC has said it won't 'dumb down' it's news coverage to compete with the re-launch of news at 10 on ITV

It won't dumb down because it already has... Rolling Eyes

So the rumours of Huw & Fiona rollerskating from the newswall to the desk are wrong then? Pity.

I wonder how this tallies with ex-DJ Simon Mayo presenting the BBC Breakfast News

BBC Breakfast could not get any worse than it is, or was with he who has defected to Sky, and if Mayo can speak clearly and read an autocue half-decently then it might get a bit better.

Not quite sure why he should want the job, he's never really taken to television before. I think someone once opined that he's got a good face for radio Wink

They're just trying out a few likely candidates at the moment, aren't they?

<cough> Bullsh*t! <cough>

As you remark, hasn't BBC's news coverage been 'dumbed down' enough already? I'm watching less and less TV anyway due to this sort of thing (now less than an hour a week) - the news is practically the last bastion of intelligent information but even that's being eroded in favour of soundbites, flashy graphics and celeb 'puff' pieces masquerading as news stories.

Small wonder I listen to the radio almost exclusively these days. Rolling Eyes

The sad thing is the celebrity worship is even creeping onto the BBC world service now. Last week they had a story about Britney Spears immediately after the situation in Kenya, I was flabbergasted. I guess a story like thats OK on radio 1 possibly even radio 2 but I'm guessing most world service listeners don't give a flying flip about Britney Spears.

I didn't know Simon Mayo was going to do breakfast tv, not that I would watch but he's ok on the radio, maybe he'll do alright (could he do any worse!)
